I've got a 99 extended cab 4x4 with 3in body lift
I want to put on 33 x 1250 MT Baja Claw Radials and use my stock rims. Is this even possible or do I have to get new wheels with different backspacing. Also what is the deal with the cranking 5/8in on the torsion bars?
thanks, ryan

They will work fine, however, you will probably have some rubbing on the frame at full turn. Many people here run 33x12.50 tires on stock rims, so it can't be that bad. It would be a good idea to crank up your torsion bars a little to get a little extra height in the front.

I'm getting a 3" body lift and want bigger tires of course. But my question is What size equals out to basically 33x12.50 in metric? I'm looking at 285.75.16 yokohama's right now.. Any advice or knowledge on this subject would help so much in my tire choice... Thank you

The 285.75.16 equals out to basically a 33x12.50. I have that size BF Goodrich AT's on mine and I think that they are a little bit taller(not too much) and a little more narrow. I left them on the stock 16x8 rims and get minor rubbing when turning all the way.

You can correct me if I am wron, but from I know 285/75/16's are close to ~33x11.5's. BUT they are about a 1/2" taller. I've got them on my truck and I love them...no problems so far!

I agree. I think they are little taller than 33"s but are narrower. I think the quote is something like 32.8x11.8x16. They do fit better than the 33x12.5x15. The rub is minor on the frame and you will have to trim even with a body lift or a suspension lift.

I have managed to run the 33x12.5x15's on my stock truck until I got the Suspension lift last week. It can be done.

Here is a link to an online "tire size calculator". Just plug in the three numbers and it will tell you the height, width, and diameter.

by the way.. 97_blk_dak.. nice ride bud.

i have a quick question for you, when they say the backspacing of the wheel, does that mean that they will stick out farther? as in the wheel will stick out farther from the axle?

im just wondering because i got a 3 inch rancho suspension lift sitting in my garage and im trying to find out more information before i set forth in getting this all done. i was told you cant get any kind of offset on the wheel and the only way to get the wheels to have a sider stance is to get adapter or spacers.

can you help any?

A lower backspacing means that they will stick out further from the wheel well, thus giving you a wider stance. If you go with too low of a backspacing, you will probably have to trim your fenders a little like I did. The stock backspacing is 5.5", so if you stay between 4 and 4.75, you shouldn't have any rubbing. Make sure you stay with a 15x8 wheel. A 15x10 will give you some serious rubbing problems. I've never used spacers before, so I don't know much about them. Maybe someone else can add some opinions on those for you.

And I have no lift yet on the truck. Again I was wondering if I was going to have any issues with running these.

Nic, you will probably need a 3" lift, either body or suspension to run that size tire. They come out to 32.83" tall and 11.22" wide. It would probably fit on your truck stock, but you would probably have to do a lot of trimming. I've never tried this setup myself, so I'm not completely sure.

you're right, that is basically just to act as a guide. Every tire is a little different. You have to go to tire manufacturer websites or places like Tirerack.com to get the actual height and width of a specific tire.

FYI,

I put my 285x75x16 BFG AT's next to my new BFG 33x10.5x15 BFG MT's and the AT's were only .25" or so smaller in height but it was really pretty close. Width was less than 1" diff but with the knobby look the MT's have they look close.

A quick question for anyone online right now.
I need to get new tires on my 98 sport 4x4 asap. I'm going to get a 3" lift, but it's not in right now. I'm planning on putting 33x12.50 r15's on my truck after the lift, but I can't wait till then. If I put these tires on my truck tomorrow, before the lift, how much rubbing am I going to encounter. Is it going to effect my driveability and ruin the new tires, or can I get away with it for about a week or two till I can get my lift on??

Any help would be appreciated. I've researched the tires but only for a lifted truck, I have no real clue on the results on a stock truck and really don't have much time to look the info up. If I'm going to do this now, I have to get on the phone and order them.

Thanks to any who reply !!!

how much rubbing? hmmm, let me think, well, you'll probably rip your front bumper off. that is, unless you crank up your torsions and trim the bumper. and let's not forget, at stock height they won't just fit in, meaning, the tire shop won't be able to put them on and you drive home to do the trimming.

Ian is right, you better wiat until you put on your lift. You probably won't be able to turn at all without scrubbing up your fenders unless you do some serious cutting.

thanks for clearing that up bjlindsey Maybe yall can answer me this If I put 32x11.50x15 super swamper SSR on my stock 15x8 rims and I put a 2 inch block in the back and crank my torsion bars will they still rub and will I have to crank the torsion bars to max to match the 2 inch block in the back? and I don't want to crank Them to the max. if I can go that route and not have to change gears thats all I need
The SSR are actually 32.5 with a tread width of 10.0 I may need back spacing but know how much.
