Message:
hey guys its whikota again, and i have another silly trivial pursiut question again ****sigh**** i've been calling around on add a leafs, ive called about four 4x4 dealers around here i keep getting the wrong answer!!

one place said they dont make add a leafs for our daks,he basically said i was screwed, he suggested monroe adjustable shocks to raise the rear up to 4"....i dont know if im gonna follow that, but he could actually be right!

another place said they would have to call daystar tommorow then call me back ??????????????????wtf!!! nobody has told me any brand names of the add a leafs, grrrr!!!then i wanted to know the actual heigth after the add a leafs were installed, one guy said half an inch, another guy asked me why i wanted to do the add a leaf then side stepped and changed the subject!

simple questions ,who makes add a leafs, how much lift do you gain? are they easy to install? does it make it so stiff that its unbearable to go offroading?and is there any other ways of raising the rear of my dak?im new to all of this and i need a step in the right direction so i will stop tripping out, lol!! i am now a member of dodge dakotas.com i guess it takes a few days to process all the info, so when i get pics i will definetely show them off ,and will thank all of my peeps who walked me through all of this!!!
sorry about this long thread!!

2001 slt plus ,cc, v-6, 2wd 3" pa body lift ,clear corner turning signals, steel horse bed extender, yakima roof rack with load warrior,2" daystar spacers(this weekend).....and hopefully add a leafs!!!!!.......and rising!

dude your best bet is to call Fabtech. they have a add aleaf for the dak, and they'll be able to answer all your questions.

now im coming from the gen 1 4x4 side but i just ordered a set of Pro-Comp add-a-leafs for like 30 w/tax. im sure that a lot of other companies will make "generic" AAL for your truck but it being a 2x4 might change things a little bit, its mostly the 4x's that are looking to use AAL. but you 2xers have an advantage us 4x's dont, you can get whats called a shackle lift, which is baisicly a longer rear spring shackle that lifts the truck however many inches. i believe they have some on the truckinsuspension.com website. or if you really wanted some good rear lift, you could do a spring over. you would need some new spring perches(30 bucks), u-bolts, shocks, and maybe brake lines. but im not sure how many inches you would get out of that, it varies with trucks... hope this helps a little bit, later
Brent

You CANNOT lift your vehicle with shocks - unless they are coil-overs - PERIOD!!!

You can add a leaf - and you will likely require a kidney belt to drive it over bumps, as it might just be stiff as you know what.

Here's what I did - I purchased 2" leveling springs for the front from Fabtech - good for about 1 1/2" lift on a V8.

I installed a set off Super Springs on the rear axle, shackled to the spring pack. They are somewhat adjustable for ride height. Raised me 1 1/4" - I could adjust them up another 3/4".

They are designed to add carrying capacity, reduce sway, and they are progressive - that is the more weight you are carrying, the more spring resistance they provide. They are OUTSTANDING!!!

If anything, they enhance the truck's ride, while offering a respectable amount of lift.

They do what an extra leaf will do for you, without the medical attention your butt and back would need.

i actually fat fingured my key board, i meant to say the add-a-leafs are 2".

as for how i got it level, i was able to get a little over 2" out of my torsions and still get the damn thin to align. i would say just don't max it out, but even if you did, as long as nothing is rubbing/binding/tearing/over extended, then you should be fine.

i don't believe 2" is enough to really wear out U-Joints. as for the rubber boots on the front, cranking your torsions will not move your CV's outside of factory tolerance specs. basically, the area of movement will still be the same, the truck will just sit higher because the torsion will be tighter.

I would definetly stick with the add-a-leafs for the rear. I used to be into the lowered crowd and I had a set of two inch cast aluminum blocks on my toyota tacoma and I broke them in half on a hard launch. Pinion hit the bed, made a bad noise. Also if you go for longer shackles in the rear, they will only lift the suspension half thier length because they only lift the rear of the spring. So for two more inches of lift you have to have 4 inch longer shackles which borders on unsafe. just my two cents.
