Looking for ideas.
So far what I have planned in my head is an
intake snorkle that comes up threw the bed of
the truck and over the cab.
To start from the TB with a flex fitting to a 3"
steel pipe bent towards the frame. Then
threw another flex fitting to another 3" steel
pipe bent to follow the frame to the back of the
cab ( let it be Reg. Ext. or QC ) then up towards
the bed. Another flex fitting then threw the bed
on the passenger side of the truck. In the bed
is where the new filter box would be. The box
designed to take a K&N style cone filter, with
some way to separate any water spray that
makes its way that far. Now the part where I
could use some help. I invision a pipe that
would follow the shape, style and colour of the
side of the cab at the edge of the rear window,
while maintaning the 3" flow. Then over the
top of the cab to a ram air style scoop (a ram
air style / true cold air intake scoop to offset
the very long pipe to the engine) that follows
the shape of the roof . All of the set up that you
could see on the outside of the truck to be
made out of some sort of plastic. I really don't
want this to look like the traditonal snorkle with
the small pipe and crude square scoop. I'm
thinking nice curved and stream lined like the
rest of the truck.
Any thoughts / intrest / ideas.

Good Idea but you would loose the forced
intake and the look. And on the other hand
where could you pass a 3" pipe into the cab
and not transfer ALOT of road / engin noise
into the cab.

What's wrong with a snorkel like on the Chevy in Dante's Peak? It didn't look too bad IMHO.

personally I think a dak would look mean with a snorkle like A hummer. you could leave it short for every day driving then just add an extension or leave it on.

a snorkel like that and a hanson bumper would make it the meanest/tuffest looking truck on the road

You'd have to be going pretty damn fast for there to be any ram air effect. Not to mention that any small gain from ram air would be more than eaten up by all of the losses in that much piping.

Hey. Someone mentioned a snorkle like the one on a HUMMV, and since I happen to work around military vehicles all the time, I thought I'd throw out another idea. One of the five ton trucks I drive has another kind of snorkle: comes up along the right-rear side of the cab and just pulls from the side of the truck. Ram-air could possibly scoop up more than just water, I think. Perhaps leaves, branches, any mud or rocks that could be thrown up from anyone in front of you, ect. Mabye a side pulling intake has it's binefits. Personally, what I'd love to do is pull air from the top of the firewall in such a way you had to get water over the top of the hood, and leave both front corners of the bed open for exhaust stacks.... just my thoughts though.
Sending thoughts from the Iraqi desert.
Take care

I think a snorkel with a custom winch bumper such as a hanson would look badass on a Dakota or a Durango. Im sure a snorkel for a landcruiser/rover, cherokee or similar would work, just knowing which to buy is the problem.
