So who is serious about purchasing a kit when they come out? No need to worry about R&D, they been doin that for a couple years, unlike the TS lift that was made and sold within a few months. I have no problem with being the first to install one of these as much as I would like more than 3" of suspension lift I think it will be less problematic and is the only viable choice for me at this time. Hopefully the new-style Daks will be more received by aftermarket manufacturers like Rancho, Tuff Country and Trailmaster and they will comeout with a 5"+ soon after it's release(fingers crossed).

I for one intend to purchase the kit if we can get a group buy together and maybe save on shipping or something like that. Really wanted to wait until spring to install though due to the crappy winter were having, but it would be hard to wait with the lift sitting and staring me in the face lol so I'll prolly do it the first weekend I get it and finally get that grin back that I had when I first installed the bodylift:)

Lets get a roll call of non-dreamers, though u can feel free to post too lol.

I did not want to be part of the first group getting them on. I am hesitant to jump right on it. I have for warned my mecahnic that it will be arriving at his shop within the next few months.

How much R&D has been put into this? SInce this is a more reputable lift company I am sure the product is good but I do not want ot mess around with down time. I am starting to replace the wearing parts already.

I need to feel a little bit warmer and fuzzier, plus I still hear my wife telling me if it aint broke dont mess with it after the locker install problem.

They supposedly have been working on the suspension almost since the rack-n-pinion Daks came out, so R&D has been long-term to say the least. I would expect zero defects or lift issues if it is installed properly. I have seen the Rancho R&D test environment on a show that was partly about lifting a Ranger. They rode with one of the test drivers in the desert and they drove that thing like it was a Pre-Runner with all 4 tires leaving the ground half the time lol. They don't leave anything to chance when they put their name on a product and sell it to the public. I have never heard of a complaint or recall on any Rancho suspension lift or part, that goes along way in my book.

Looks like I'm the only one who will be getting one when it comes out:) that's ok, I'll have pictures for everyone to drool over lol.

You should be able run 35x12.50's on stock rims, they what I expect to be using but on aftermarket rims for a little more offset to widen the stance. 10" total lift from 6" body/sus lift and another 4" more from tires(35's) is a bit much to be that tall with tires tucked in under body at stock offset, rollover potential increases greatly if you had to turn quickly at speed. But that's just my opinion in my experience with lifted trucks.

When are they delivering it, now or on 1/31/03 when the lift is supposed to be released by Rancho? Also, $1355.00 shipped is a great deal and I am calling and ordering one for that price. Make sure you post some pics after you get the lift in like I will be too, the race is on lol. You plannin on installing it yourself too?

2thextrm, just a quick correction...you will only get 2 more in. of height by going from a 31in. tire to a 35in. tire. The total difference in height (4inches)is divided equally all the way around the tire.

Just a note,

35's on stock rims will rub on the frame. 33's already do so 35's will be worse.

You'll need an 8" rim with 4" to 5" of backspacing. to keep it away from the frame.
Too much backspacing and it will be tucked in and sing into the frame. Too little backspacing and it will stick out and swing into the fender.

Be careful choosing rims

UPDATE!!!!!!

I just called 4wheelparts and verified the new Rancho lift is not expected to arrive at their store until after 1/31/03 and they have 3 black kits and 1 red kit on order. Gave me a price of $1359 shipped(free shipping right now) and that price does not include shocks, RS9000's are $200 for the set of four, the optional skid plate for front crossmember is $270.00 and they will have a couple of them in stock at beginning of February too. So it looks like grand total for lift with (4)RS9000's and skidplate is $1,829.00!!! Without free shipping prolly looking at $2K for whole package. Ouch! I have new ES9000's that I will be keeping for this project before I buy new shocks, depending on if front shocks need to be longer or not, hopefully not. Also not sure how skidplate attaches so I have to check into that further to make sure it is not affected by bodylift in anyway, if so, I will just make my own.

That's that, mine is ordered but I dont expect to see it any earlier than 3 weeks from now.

Hey 2THEXTRM. I belive the shocks will need to be changed because lower a-arm moves like on the 97-99 lift. I may take your shocks if they will fit on mine, shouldn't be any difference. Shoot me an email with a price if you want to go that route.

Corey u may be right on the front shocks, I am just wondering if the shocks need to be longer or a drop bracket for upper attachment point is given, guess I won't really know until the kit comes in with instructions. The rear lift uses blocks like I have now, prolly only 1-2" taller and the rear shocks may be too short in that case too. If they won't work on my truck, I'll let you know what I would be wanting for all four shocks, think I paid around $150 for the shocks and red dust boots. I'll also have the rear block lift with custom u-bolts that will slap on your truck too for a little extra height! In the meantime, you might want to call 4wheelparts where I bought them and verify the correct part's for your Dak and I'll make sure they match what I have or just make ask if the same shocks are used for a 98 as an 01 Dakota.

Knobby, your prolly right on the attachment point for skid plate, usally they do bolt to both subframe and rad support. I am thinkin I could make a skid for much less than the $300 Rancho is charging and make it from stainless or aluminum so it won't rust up like the powder coated steel plate Rancho uses. P.S.- hows that Cougar been treating ya? Miss having a "stock" truck yet? lol.

About the shocks, I guess I will need new ones. I have the Rancho RS9000's right now. I guess those wont work?

I already called my mechanic and told him to expect it to be delivered to his door in Feb.

DJ had a front Skid plate made for our bumpers. If you have not seen it I have some video of DJ that shows a close up of it.

As far as the wives approval I will be spending all my time getting all the projects she wants me to do (Kitchen, Front, side and Backyard, and the cabinets in the garage need to be finished, Damn, Can I go wheelin now!) and I will prolly never get out to wheel it!

Hey, if you could check with Rancho to verify if the part#'s for your current shocks match the ones recommended with lift, that should answer the question if custom length shocks are required or not for us all, I wouldn't think so only because more wheel travel has not been noted on Rancho's website as benefits to adding their kit, but I could be wrong.

I know what you mean on around-the-house projects, I have a spare bedroom with 3/4 bath that is gutted and unuseable for almost 3 months now with all the material collecting dust lol. That was part of the deal to finish at least the bathroom before I get my lift, well better get to work:)

I would like to see the skidplate you mentioned, how bout a link to the vid? Thanks!

Yes you need new shocks. They are different, Longer according to Mike. I ordered it to pick up at the store but he is gonna see if I can do a vendor pickup at one of the warehouse to get it to me sooner. Since I work for a transportation company, I told him, I can have that in my hands in Hours not days! I have been waiting 3 years for this! He understands!

I did cross the part numbers on the ones I have with the ones you need, They are different. My total was $1868.00 including 4 shocks. If anyone finds a better price let me know so I can get it to! Please!

So they ship on a Friday, Man I wish I could just will call it at Rancho's dock! I would have it that day! DAMN!

Cool! What shocks did you go with? the standard RS9000's or RS9000X adjustables? Looks like you'll prolly get the lift first then, let us know after you open the box how it looks. Also, did you go with red or black finish? How much is your mechanic chargin you to install and are you planning on installing new ball joints since the boots always get ripped while taking apart front suspension. I think I am going to order up some new upper/lower Moog BJ and install them at the same time, don't want to be taking everything apart again in 6 months after the BJ fall apart from contamination due to the ripped boots.

I like that skid plate in the vid, will that still work with the Rancho lift? or did you order the Rancho Skid?

I got Black. I did not get the optional skid plate since Dj has the custom one already made. May have to do some adjustments but it should work.

My mechanic charges $80.00 per hour I pay him $90.00. Why, I get the same mechanic, and he is worth it, get preferential treatment and for his plain old honesty and always getting a complete once over at each visit. Just talking to the guys and seeing the work space they have shows there value and pride in their work. Plus I am just that kind of guy. You do get something from nothing and you never know when you need a break or something.

Ball Joints! I have been thinking about this and I am not sure if I want to just do the OEM change or have them grind them in. I am gonna have a talk with my mechanic about this, I am just not sure. I am starting to have some noises come from the wheels when turning. I regularly check everything I can after a wheelin trip. I will probably decide when they get it in the shop and start working on it and see what is recommended.
