Subject: Can I use a 318 TB on my '89 3.9L V6?

Hello, just discovered this site. Very nice place to get help. Nice people, too! Anyway, I have a 1989 Dakota (2WD standard cab) with a 3.9L V6 (w/ TB)and automatic transmission. Currently, everything is stock (kinda boring). I was planning to add a less-restrictive exhaust (possibly removing the catalytic converter) and add a 14in air cleaner assembly. I wanted more umph.
I was wondering if I could replace the stock throttle body with another throttle body from a 318 5.2L V8. Is this possible? Could I atleast interchange parts between the two? If not, is there ways to add more preformance just in the area of the intake and exhaust? This would be very helpful!
...Oh, I just remembered one more thing. Does anyone know if the SMEC/SBEC on the passenger side fender really need to have that little air duct attached at all times? The manual is of little help. Since I am adding that new air cleaner assembly, I wasnt sure if this would mess up the computer any or not. Thanks!!

up the timing 3-4 degrees,
better ignition msd,jacobs etc
port the heads
1.88 & 1.60 valves in the heads instead of the 1.77 & 1.50s
the tbi on the 318s are the same as the 3.9s except they have bigger injectors
headers,cat back exsh.,less res.muffler & cat

Thank you. I heard from another guy that you would need a new throttle cable if I used a tbi from a 318. he said that the one from the 3.9L wouldnt work.
My knowledge on these engines is not as good as the rest of you, but what do mean by porting the heads? What valves are you talking about? I just want to be clear. I am not sure if I will have time to mess with tearing open my engine and changing the valves or any other larger projects like this. Thanks again for your assistance!
