Subject: Maximum Tire Size...

Message:
OK fellas, I've searched the message boards and found no consistencies whatsoever, so here it goes again...

I have a 2001 4x4 Dak and want to put the largest tire/rim combo on it possible without rubbing fender or tire. I want to put 15 inch rims on it, but I don't know how wide they can be and I don't know how big a tire can fit without rubbing.

I'm looking to get the gnarliest look without lifting the truck.

Does anyone know of a nice looking tire/rim combination? I'm going for the Mickey Thompson simulated beadlock rims cause I think they look great, but exactly what size I can fit is beyond me.

Thanks in advance guys,

Kevin

Turn your wheels lock to lock and measure the clearance both front and rear of your tire. Take the smallest of those 2 measurements and multiply by 2. Add that to your current tire diameter and that's how big you can go.

Now, for the inner fender rub. Measure the distance between the top of the tire and the leading edge on the top side of the fender. Do this all the way around from the front of the fender to the back. Take the smallest measurement and save it. Now mesure the distance between your bump stop and your control arm. Subtract that distance from the measurement you made from the top of the tire to the top of the fender. Now take that number and multiply it by 2 and add that to your current tire diameter and that's how big a tire that will clear the fender.

Now, compare the two numbers you calculated ( the one for turning lock to lock VS. the one for suspension travel). Take the smallest of the two and subtract at least one inch from it. To be safe you need to subtract 2 inches from it. This will give you a good reference to start from. If you paln to go wider than stock you will have to adjust by going smaller in diameter.
