whats up. can anyone out there tell me what the best paper air filter is? I used a K and N but it let plenty of dirt in and onto the top of my throttle body. I have been using Fram but after reading all of the horror stories on this web site about their oil filters i do not even know if i can trust them with my air filtration anymore. So can anyone offer any advice

Additional Air Filter Information

FRAM --- Sorry, i don't trust them.

K&N --- gets good reviews and some not so good.

However, it's the same with Amsoil and OEM.

FYI ---Forget HP gains and the MPG gains ...
... DIRT IS THE ENEMY !!!

You want FILTRATION with no (or very little) restriction of flow.

You are generally correct in your analysis of K&N ...
... stops birds and bricks ... not much else ...
... and don't forget "Dirt is the silent killer"!!!

I read this on another site ... quite funny ...

"I think of the K&N working like your nose. It filters some bad stuff through your nose hair, and some sticks to your mucous, but lots of stuff still makes it to your lungs if you don't wear a dust mask that actually blocks particles from making it through the media."

(Another FYI and Off-the-Record) ... I am not a big fan of K&N ... my friends at the garage laugh and say that the K&N is 1 million holes traveling at 70 MPH. They don't think that the K&N filters very well ... and I have seen controlled lab tests that back up their comments. Sorry ... but sometimes the truth hurts.

I'm willing to concede some shapes of K&N flow better than some Amsoil filters, but for the most part they are fairly close - again the KEY is FILTRATION. Do a UOA (Used Oil Analysis) and check close at the Silicon levels when using K&N. They seem to "sometimes" be pretty high with some of the K&N's. Do your own test ... don't take my word for it. FYI --- Silicon is "SAND" ... the higher the number ... the more sand that is passing thru the filter. We all know the consequences of of sandblasting or using sandpaper.

Amsoil has introduced a new line of filters. The new filters are called Amsoil FlowzAir and I recently received the new brochure and it is in the latest catalog. Available shortly, the most popular first, Ford, GM and Dodge trucks. TS-189 is out for the 2003 Dodge trucks and it replaces Mopar #53032700AA.
--------------------------------------------------

Regarding the FlowzAir filter, it is currently only available for the 2003 model Dodge Dakota (which may be the sam as 2002 models). Amsoil is adding additional makes and models on a weekly basis and hopefully they will be available for more year models soon.

Here is a quote from a satisfied Amsoil FlowzAir Customer:

"I had two of the older versions, one in my 2001 GMC was a real tight fit to get in. Your hands got dirty and its was messy to install. I put in the new TS123 last week and it just dropped in. The fit was perfect. The blue EVA seal takes the place of the form fit seal. It makes installing them a snap. The other went into my 2002 Trans Am and was the same, perfect fit an easy to install. They also come packaged in a better plastic bag so no oil can possible leak out prior to opening."

Amsoil FlowzAir Air Filter & Synthetic Oil & Lubes

Clarification: Donaldson, Baldwin, or Hastings for paper.

Amsoil does not offer a paper air filter. The chart above is for the Amsoil TS (Two-Stage) Air Filter with Oil-Wetted Foam --- NOT to be confused with the NEW Amsoil FlowzAir currently coming to market.

Foam is thicker (than paper) and allows for more area for the dirt to get caught --- still allowing for good airflow.are "full-depth" filters that trap and hold much more dirt than do conventional "surface-type" filters. The polyurethane foam used in AMSOIL Air Filters is much thicker than the thin layer of paper used in conventional filters. The foam’s thickness allows for more filtering area and more capacity to trap dirt over a longer period of time.

Amsoil TS oil-wetted foam air filters keep oils and engines cleaner for longer periods with the most effective air filtration available today.

AMSOIL air filters provide superior performance in all three critical areas of filtration:

efficiency (dirt-stopping)
capacity (dirt-holding)
resistance (air flow)

AMSOIL air filters are uniquely designed to hold wear-causing dirt while allowing clean air into the engine for better performance, better fuel economy, lower exhaust emissions and longer engine life.

Also, AMSOIL air filters are washable and reusable for thousands of miles of trouble-free service.

The Amsoil TS Air Filter for passenger vehicles, features two layers of oil-wetted polyurethane foam, which provides a network of interlocking cells that trap particles yet allow a constant flow of clean intake air for outstanding engine protection and performance.
