If you really want speed then you need to get a bike. I have a crouch rocket for speed and racing and the dodge hemi 4x4 for the dirt. In comparison to my past 4x4 the hemi has alot more power, but compared to performance cars it's nothing. It is a fullsize QC fatboned truck.

I finally picked up my '04 Hemi Caravango on Sat. I am very pleased with everything from the fit and finish of the interior to the performance so far of the Hemi minding that I am babying it a bit due to break in requirements (moderate acceleration first couple hundred miles, etc.). It is the 5.7 Hemi and for $40 I got the 3.92 rear end. The only do it yourself mod I have done so far was to remove the infamous rubber flap from in front of the air box. I am in weekly contact with a tech from K&N who keeps me updated on the progress for a FIPK or at least a drop in air filter. I can see that providing a BIG increase in some HP, you should see the huge baffle thing that is part of the intake tubing leading to the TB. Has anyone seen this contraption?? My guess it quiets down the intake leading to a quieter interior...I am itching to yank that out. Say what you will about the 04 Durango but I am in love with it and you guys will be soon enough since the next generation of Dakota is it's virtual identical twin!!! It will grow on you. I had a Gen II (96) and at first hated the '97 and up Daks, but ended up getting a '01 myself!! This is my first venture into the SUV world and I love Dodge and the new look Durango. Any other ideas on mods at this point for me?? Keep in mind the underhood setup of the Hemi is different in the Ram and the Durango making any aftermarket parts for these two different, trust me I've done my homework to verify this with Dodge, K&N, etc. Thanks!

I believe that's called a Heimholtz box, and you are correct about what it is for.

How/why would you know the name of the baffle on my Hemi intake tubing Kowalski!!! you guys never cease to amaze me!! I guess the masses are more into a quieter ride than a better performing engine. oh well, anyway you guys really gotta see my "Heimholtz" box it's the dumbest thing ever to go on a engine, oh well, life goes on, any other tid bits of info I should know??

Learned that from motorcycles - the correct name for the ugly "breadbox" tacked on to the Bueller Harleys. There to deal with Uncle Sam's noise rules. Other tidbits ? Screw the masses, have some fun. I have a hard time understanding how they can be that picky about noise control, yet allow ridiculously noisy military aircraft to fly over my home. Time to hit the bomb shelter, I might have riled the military guys with that...

After I learned the proper name of it from you I hunted down some more info about the "box", supposedly on unmodded engines it provides mid range torque gains, how I do not know, but that's what I read, you gotta see the engine setup on my 5.7 Durango, between the Heimholtz box and the crankcase breather/PCV tubing that runs all the way accross the engine it's a mess, I can't wait for K&N to release a GEN II FIPK!!

I've been in contact with K&N and am going to wait to see when it will be that they will come out with a dyno proven intake, I'm very capable of making my own, i've done it in the past but i am a little wary of tampering with a $36,000 vehicle, taking off the rubber flap had me second guessing myself!! I'll give K&N until probably April 1
