Message:
hello i need help. i have a 1992 dak with a v6 and i have an oil leak. the ole truckster uses about one quart of oil every 2000 miles and i think its the intake manifold leaking. has anyone had this problem. i see where oil has ran down from the rear of the intake manifold (around the distributer) and down to the base of the front of the tranny. after a couple of miles i can see a drop of oil forming there. do you all think this could be the problem. its vital that i find out quickly as i have to go on a trip soon and need to get this fixed. PLEASE any quick response would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

Could be. Needs to be fixed regardless. While you have the intake off, replace the belly pan gasket in the bottom of the intake. If it hasn't gone bad, it will.

Drain the water, remove the tb and remove the fuel rails, gen and ac can be set aside, gen/ac support must be removed, then the intake. Like gen1dak said replace the belly pan gasket, but also the bypass water hose. They are not good to change along side the road. Be sure to use new intake bolts (the old ones are torque once bolts). Use some sealer between the gasket and front & back seal. I put just a thin film around the water ports. This should get you started. It's not too bad a job. Give yourself a weekend to do it. When you first startup let the engine idle for about 5 minutes then shut it off. Restart and you should be ready to go. Good luck.

Ok i fixed the intake manifold gasket no leaks. but i cleaned very good by the distributer and i have driven about 60 miles and i see a slight oily film coming from the base of the distributer is this normal? I hope this is not where the oil leak was in the first place but it only looks like a little oil is coming out of there could i put some RTV around the edge of the base of the distributer to help this? Deep Purple or Gen1Dak please respond or anyone else for that matter i just want to know that i did not waste my time replacing the intake manifold gasket Thanks for any and all help.
