Yes it will fit a 2002. You have to fashion a .264 inch spacer identical to the gasket that comes with the kit ( I cut 4 replicas of the gasket out of sheet metal and fashioned two gaskets from blank Mr.Gasket material ) and use the stock bolts.
And...YES. It is worth it.

i was also looking at a hurst shifter from summit racing, it says its for the v8's only and works with the nv3500 transmission. i have a 2002 v6, does anyone know if these shifters will work on the v6. i know some parts that are made for the v8 also work the v6, just dont know if this is one of them.

v-6 dakotas do not have the nv 3500 they have the ax 15, and none of the parts will fit. www.truckperformance.com has both the v8 and v6 hurst shifters at a reasonable price. only ONLY v8 dakotas have the nv3500 unless you switched it over.

As of the year 2000 the V6 and V8 came Factory
equipped with the NV3500 5spd.
