Message:
hold in the brake with your left foot and apply some gas. You want to feel it trying to pull forward. When it's go time, drop the brake and mash the gas.

By playing with how hard you mash the gas/brake, you can break the rear end free while staying still (called power braking)

You have to be carefull how much you "power brake" go too high and too close to the stall speed of the converter you will cause the converter to fail ...............

I raced a, well I'll withhold this so I don't get flamed, but it was a small truck with a V8. Any who, I would bring up the RPM's to about 1500 on a 2500 stall converter and when the last amber light came on I would put it down about 3/4 throttle and ease it to full throttle by about 10-20 feet out.

Yeah your going to say that I red lighted a lot, but by the time the truck reacts and breaks the beam the christmas tree is green, and your gone with one heck of a hole shot.

Try it out, it might take a red light or two to figure out how early or late on the last amber to punch it, but it works great for street vehicles. Now, if you have slicks and a ton of traction and the vehicle leaps forward immediately when you hit the gas, this might not work too well. Give it a try, worst you can do is red light a time or two.

someone told me that applying the emergency brake then release it right as i mash the gas would give me positive traction. is that true? anyone ever tried it?

make sure your od' is off to otherwise it will cycle on and off and cause you to lose acceleration power.

scojo - lower the tire pressure for which coming off the line or power breaking, and if it is for coming off the line could you please explain the benifit.

If you could juggle the Dakota's emergency brake in a launch I'd give you an applause.

Also, there's no need. Just use your regular brake..

What's needed with the Dak is a suspension mod to increase traction and weight transfer at launch. Anyone come up with something better than slapper bars, but short of swapping the entire leafspring suspension?
BTW Skojodak, unless you are running slicks, street tires will become concave and reduce the amount of track to tire contact unless you run the manufacturer's reccomended tire pressure. Slicks flex at the sidewall instead of bowing the traction surface like street tires do.

blacksunshine, you should be powerbraking anyway to hold the RPM's at about 1000/1500. With regard to other people saying that lowering the air pressure on stock tires wont work, I dont know what brands they're running. But I do know that with my Nitto extremes, it got me a 10th in the ET department. Just my $.02

ooh i do powerbreak i can usully get her up to 2.8k rpms before i start to break her lose off the line.

running the stock goodyear eagle LS's that came with my truck still.
