I have a 97 dakota 4x4 with the V-8. Has approx 110,000 miles on it. It almost always starts hard and always has. The starter cranks for about 15 seconds before it finally fires off. I was just wondering if anybody might no what causes this.

Shut it off and restart it right away. If it fires right up you could be losing fuel pressure, either through a bad injector or bad check valve. If not, check the usual tune up stuff.

Thnaks for the reply I did some more checking and it sounds like the check valve on the fuel pump is bad. I was hoping I could get the fuel filter regulator that has the check valve in it without buying the whole fuel pump. Dodge dealer says it is one part#. If anybody knows where I could get just the fuel pressure regulator please let me know. thanks
