For those of you that own either a Paxton or Kenne Bell
supercharger, how much noise can you hear from it.
Can you hear it while driving or sitting at a light... or
better yet, can the car next to you hear it? Just
wondering since I might be getting one for my 4.7 QC
and might make it a sleeper. Then again, I like hearing
the "whine" sound!

The KB was quite noticeable when I first got it, but over time, you just get used to it. Doesn't make any noise when sitting at a light. It is noticeable during acceleration, but not overly loud. I've never heard a Paxton.

I have the Paxton Novi-2000 and it's pretty loud, but I like it. I had a friend tell me that he heard the blower from about two blocks away, before he heard my exhaust (true duals w/no cats). But even with the blower whine and the "Supercharged 5.9 R/T" sticker on the tailgate, I still catch people off guard. Guess they don't expect it from a truck :)

I wonder if the Novi 1000 would be just as loud for the 4.7?

From what I've gathered, it looks like I could run 9-10 psi on the Paxton with a 2-core intercooler without changing the timing and still run 92 octane. This should also put RWHP around 360. Sound about right? As of now, I don't think I can do this with the KB, since I see no way to add an intercooler.

You can run a water/alcohol injection that allows you to run more psi.

At 10psi I think it would be more like 320 or 330 at the rear wheels (assuming 7% per psi).

How does water/alcohol injection work? Is it easier or cheaper than radiators?

BTW, thanks for the info. guys!

I have a kit that came with a pump that I mounted inside the engine compartment. I tapped into my windshield washer fluid tank and have the water injected into the throttle body just upstream from the butterfly. There's an adjustable switch that will turn the pump on at the boost level you want (difficult to set). Injecting the water at this point not only cools the intake charge, but also cools the s/c as it goes through. Anyone who owns a KB knows they get really hot and can use the cooling.

Hey J, have you seen KB's version of the mist system
on thier site? That one also hooks up to the windshield
fluid tank, but I can't find a price for it... not sure if it's any
better than other aftermarket systems. I'm glad you
mentioned that the KB charger gets hot, I'm out here in
AZ so it would be a great idea to get a water kit.

Are you able to run a lower octane with the Aquamist?
Or go the other way and stay at premium and move up
2#'s of boost? I appreciate your help on this, I sure you
know the feeling just before you fork-out 4-5 G's. ;-)

I don't think KB sells a water injection kit. I know they have it on their website, but they don't sell it (go figure). Checkout Kennedysdynotune.com. They have a nice water injection kit, and they sell KB s/c's too. They are very knowledgeable and are much more help than KB's tech line.
Theoretically, you should be able to run more boost or more timing with water injection. This is assuming you were not having detonation before you put it on.

I thought the 4.7 came with a factory knock sensor? I
know the KB comes with one. I'd like to run a little more
boost on the KB, although I don't see any other pulleys.
I have 33's and 3.92 rear, you think stock boost will be
enough get-up and go!?

How loud? Louder than a MOFO... :) I love it.

Stock boost? What's that?

My truck is almost done being paid off and I'm looking at those two superchargers again. Not sure which one though.

A know a guy who was runing a 9lb pulley on his 4.7 w/ a KB. Damn thing would ping like hell, but no problems for the 30K+ miles he had it on there! This was on a CC 4x4 w/ big ass MT knobbys, tools in the back, etc etc -- a daily driver. His "excessive acceleration" tickets are enough to tell you what it can do.

I think the truck was running around 14.0 with just a Gibson exhaust and that KB kit. Sold and bought a new Z, but misses the sheer torque the truck gave him. So that should tell you something.

Hey Notch, can you post your dyno for me. I think I have it saved somewhere what I think is yours. It was kinda strange looking, jittery -- I mean that in no offense. I had some questions. Thanks.

Anyways, that KB was trouble free for the entire time he had it, installed it himself.

My 4.56s would be hell with a KB though..

Here's the dyno. This is slapping on a Paxton with stock boost, and a flowmaster replacement muffler.

304RWHP & 351RWTQ As you can see, the graph lines were off a bit. I'll have to scan the newest dyno...I'm doing some recovery tuning after some multiple cylinder missfires last week.(MY FAULT, running WAY too rich) I'll be on the dyno for about 6 hours tomorrow morning. We'll see if I can get the numbers where they were or slightly better.

With a 3.20" pulley, and duals, the numbers went to 336RWHP and 360RWTQ

13.1 @ 103mph is the best to date.
