I've purchased what I believed was everything needed to assemble a CAI: 3" Fernco Elbow, 3" ABS pipe and APC Intimidator Air filter.

My first problem is that the diameter of the Air Hat is 3" and the Fernco Elbow diameter is 3.5". What can I do to take up 1/2 in. of slack?

My second problem is mounting the air filter to the ABS pipe. The flange on the air filter has an inside diameter of 3" and the outside diameter of the ABS pipe is 3.5".

What can I do the assemble this mod?

Thanks,
Brad

The infamous shlt pipe CAI...the favorite mod of the cheap bastard.

My first suggestion would be to go get 3" CPVC and chuck the ABS 'cause it's gonna melt anyway.

My 4.7 homebrew uses the stock air box and a K&N drop-in with 3" alloy tubes from a tuner shop. I've put over 20K trouble-free miles to date. Pull up the post, "What is the best intake?" that lists my procedure. GraphiteDak has a system similar to what you are attempting. The results are worth the effort.

Was that your plumber's truck with the hood up I saw yesterday at Wal-Mart, STS? I had to see what the commotion was.

make it out of polished stainless:

Find a metals scrap yard in your area. For the 3" dia. pipe. $3 per ft. You really only need like 2 ft.

90 deg 3" intake elbows from a place that sells big rig part.$8.50 ea.

Take a look:
