I am looking for a better CAM for my 5.2l RC 1998. I put in the R/T one for more lowend torque and nothing really changed. Any suggestions? and brand, and "Lift" and so forth?

The R/T Cam from Mopar is best suited with the M1-MPI Intake and Headers. The most common aftermarket cam for the 5.2/5.9L is either the Hughes HER0814AL or the CompCams 2030.

I did alot of research when I was shopping for a cam and talked to alot of people about what I should use. I ended up with a Compcams 20-602-8,
206/210, 480/512 lift, 112 cl and I am not dissappointed. This cam really woke up my 99 5.2,
the idle is a little lopey, good low end torque and pulls like crazy right up to 5000 rpm and it still hasn't peaked out. Probably good for 5500 rpm, thats if you want to go there. I also installed a Compcams double roller timing set, R/T lifters, R/T valve springs and retainers and MP 1.6 roller rockers at the same time. Also added a M-1 2 barrel intake manifold to help it breath better, works well with this cam. My 99 5.2 is a 4X4 CC Auto with a 3.55 Suregrip and 31 inch tires and was running mid to low 15s' before the cam and intake manifold and I'm probably in the high 14s'now. If your Dakota is a 2wd RC 3.92, well...I think you get the point. Oh yea, if you do a cam swap yourself, don't forget to have the cam sensor adjusted,I did and it took me a few days to figure out why I had no power after the swap.
