Subject: Frozen water in my injectors!
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey guys. I went out this morning before work to start my Dak. The temp was hovering around 22 degrees so I thought I'd let it warm up first. I started it up and it ran fine for a few seconds and all of the sudden the engine started making a very loud knock and was shaking really bad. I tried it a few more times and the same thing happened. I feared the worst for my little Dakota. Come to find out, the gas I filled up on yesterday had water in it. Because of the cold temps some water got frozen in my injectors which was the cause of all my problems. Just curious to see if anyone has had this problem before!

Thanks, Seth

No but how did you find out your gas has water in it? That would have been one of the last things I thought of.

Mine did that once before also, but it was due to the fact that the guy who changed my antifreeze forgot to put in new antifreeze after the final flush. Thankfully the truck didn't suffer and once I got it home from the airport, I drained the plain water out and put in some antifreeze.

"Heet" used to contain methanol, which damages fuel lines. Use a name brand gas dryer like STP gas treatment or injector cleaner. You can halp prevent condensation in your fuel tank by filling up at 1/2 tank level, instead of parking the truck with an empty tank.

methanol does not hurt the fuel line itself but it disolves almost any plastic in the fuel system, like some of the inline connectors and plastic parts in the fuel injectors. also plastic float bowls in carborators.

I was almost ready to have it towed but decided to have a mechanic come out and look at it before I did. I guess he had saw the problem before and knew right off exactly what it was and asked me where I got my gas. I really thought that my Dakota was finished. It sure sounded like it. Sounded like it was going to explode or something. But anyway, I'm thankful that's all it was.
