I'm picking up an '01 Dak tonight, completely stock with the 4.7L in it. What can I expect to get from a K&N FIPK (or other intake) and a 3" cat-back with Flowmaster 50 on it?

Better mileage? Perfomance? Or just a louder truck with a whistling intake to piss of the neighbors?

Yes.

I imagine you will get all three, although "Better" is a relative term.

I put the K&N FIPK on my 4.7L and added the HO cams then I installed a Dynomax Ultraflo SS catback system and had a noticable difference with all 3 modifications. The Dynomax Ultraflo is a 2.5" straight-thru muffler yet it's not very loud, sounds great and I don't get the highway drone which gets on your nerves. Besides getting more power and torque through the entire rev band, my mileage has increased with each modification from 13.2 to 16.9 (2000 Jeep GC with Quad-Trac II AWD isn't mileage friendly) Next, I'm going to wire in a switch between the TCM and PCM on the 'Torque Management Request' line so I can switch it off when I want firmer, quicker shifts and more power then, back on when I on the highway or want the more comfortable shifts for my passengers. This mod works on 1999-2002 4.7L with the 45RFE transmission.
