Subject: Knocking with KB SC on 101 octane

My knock detector is going crazy when under boost, and I have about a gallon of 93 octane, 4 gallons of 101 octane, and a can of NOS +3 octane boost. Why would I still be knocking? The only thing I can think of is that when I relocated my battery, there are two 4 awg wires running through the firewall right by the knock sensor wire. Could that be messing with the signal?

I think he has a 4.7 and the s/c comes with a computer flash that should have the proper amount of retard programmed in. Is it really knocking, or is it just the knock detector going crazy? Have you always had a knock problem, or is this just starting? I hate to say this, but maybe you should contact Kenne Bell.

The answer is YES. The knock alert signal wire is not supposed to be near any wires at all.

Yep, you have to make sure that nothing is near the knock sensors wire. Its pretty sensitive. I ended up wraping mine in some shielding stuff my dad got me. That helped alot. One time tho, it kept going off while i was driving on the freeway. When i pulled over and popped the hood, i could here a 'knocking' sound but it didnt seem to be from the engine. With a little bit of looking around, i found it to be the nut that holds the pully on the alternator had come off, and the pully was just rattling around on the shaft. That was setting off my knock sensor and sending the KB into the failsafe mode. Pretty crazy.

Anyways, you should try to shield that wire from anything that could cause interferance. The coils will make it go off too if you get to close (i think, i dont quite remember, i routed mine around them as far as i could). Try moving it to some place else and see if your sensor is still going nuts. Good luck.

*Well, i may have sold my truck back in Jan. (a decision i regret 100%), but i still remember a few things about the KB. :)
