Alright I need some feedback on this:

Custom y-pipe to replace stock one
leading to 3" Carsound Cat
leading to 3" Mandrel bent SS
Exiting through 3" Supertrapp muffler before passenger side rear wheel.

Should I go with 3" or stick with 2.5". What size y-pipe should I have made? I'm thinking about supertrapp because I'm going for something original here.

Current mods
68mm Fastmn TB
4"z-tube
2.5" Carsound Cat
2.5" in/out Magnaflow
180t-stat

Future mods
Maybe 72mm TB
Probably HO cams and Intake unless better ones come along
Maybe long-tube headers if they can be routed to stock exit.
Hurst shifter.

CThomp;
I recently bought me a Flowmaster 'Y' pipe off of ebay. It is dual 2.25" into a single 3" pipe. My plan is to have the muffler shop cut off the pipes just after the pre-cats and bend me some 2.25" pipes and route them just like the GSMotosport system into my new 'Y' pipe just before my currently existing Flowmaster 70 series muffler.
I think the 3" all the way like you want to do may be to big unless you are going forced induction. I'm not so I'm going with the 2.25" into a single 3" into the muffler and 2.5" duals out the back.
Does this help you any or am I just ramblin here?

I'm trying to avoid duals though. I've always been fond of a single pipe. Plus the single pipe set up is supposed to flow better than a dual setup. I'm just trying to find the right single combination. The gsmotorsports dual exhaust is very impressive though. 14rwhp is hard to beat.

id go with a magnaflow muffler but thats just me! i have 2.5" from the y pipe back into a single in dual out magnaflow and thats about as big as i will go till i go FI. 3" all the way back is too much unless your puttin close to 300hp at the wheels. good rule of thumb 300hp or less 2.25 to 2.5 and over 300hp no less than 2.5 and 3" a set of shorty headers into 2.5" will do great for a "all motor" setup. a dakota with a crate 380hp 360 engine with headers and 2.5" duals will make about 320rwhp(auto tranny) and a little higher on 5-speeds. hope this helps!

Are you going to keep the pre-cats?

Midnight;
Do you still have your pre-cats?

I'm just wondering how restrictive the pre-cats are? Is it worth the trouble to get rid of them?

Your lucky!!
I'll probably leave mine on, I've read a few threads were on the '02 models w/pre-cats the catboxs didn't work for very long.
Hopefully I'll get my exhaust work completed in a week or two.
Good luck to you, keep us informed about what you do and how it comes out!

I'm concerned about the sound as well. I may have to run duals just because of the horsepower figures on the mufflers. That meaning how much power each individual muffler can take. This is gonna take more reseach.

I guess I could order the gsmotorsports exhaust with out the mufflers. Meaning the cats to just after the x-pipe. Then I could put what ever mufflers I wish on it. I'm gonna have to shoot gsmotorsports an email.

i dont have the third cat the one after the ypipe, i had it cut off! i actually did better in my emissions test without it on! also the magnaflow will handle your motor with a supercharger and nitrous so i don't think you have to worry about that unless you plan on puttin in a 426 hemi with a blower on it! the magnaflow is straight thru and has a nice rumble at idle and quieter than the flowmaster at speed but under WOT its like unleashing a banshee really nice kick yo azz sound!!!

I think it is worth the trouble to get rid of the precats. The GSMotorsports setup comes with 2 high flow cats.

The precats are one of the most restrictive things in our exhaust system. The stock regular cat is actually OK in comparison...our stock Y pipe sucks, though...

Sounds like a good idea, but supertraps sound like crap. Unless youv'e heard one and like it, I sure didn't. 3" single is LOUD

Yeah I did some pretty extensive research last night on the supertrapp idea and came to the conclusion that it was possibly a bad idea because
of the sound.

So for now I guess i'll stick with getting the y-pipe done.

I just ordered a bed rug, bed rail caps, and a tonnoe cover though so it may be a couple of weeks.

I replaced the stock factory muffler on my 5.2 4x4 with a flowmaster 70 series. The factory muffler was 3" in 2.5" out. The flowmaster is 3" in and 3" out all the to the exhaust. If I was to take a wag at the increase I have to about 10hp increase. It was very noticeable difference, About as much as adding th Jacobs Pro Street Ignition. Jacobs claims 12 rwhp increase based on dyno'ed results.
