Hoping some of you can help me out. I have a 2002 4.7 quad cab and want to buy a set of performance shocks. I've looked at past threads and no direct comparison seems to have been made. Here it is: Edelbrock IAS against KYB Monomax shocks. I have a 4x4 and pricing seems to be the same between these at $68 to $69 each. Thanks in advance for the help.

About 5 months ago I went with the Rancho 5000 in my 4x4 CC. What a difference in ride from factory crap, although I have only been through light trails and nothing big yet. I wanted to go with either the Edelbrok or Ranchos and chose the Ranchos b/c they were on sale. I hear that the mono tude Edelbroks are the way to go, but so far I've been happy with my Ranchos.

I sell the Hotchkis spec Bilsteins too!

Work best on a truck with Hotchkis suspension, otherwise the standard Bilsteins are great for stock height (and cheaper).

I just put a set of Edelbrock IAS shocks on my '03 qc 4wd with heavy duty tow pkg and they made an awesome difference. Better ride on rough roads and better handling on smooth ones. I've had KYB's and Bilsteins on other vehicles and these are the best I've ever used. Got 'em from Summit in two days. Hope this helps.

Can anybody tell me the best front receiver hitch set up for my truck? Pictures?

Thanks...

Thanks for the responses. I never considered bilsteins but I will now since everybody that has them seems to love them. The reason that I was considering the kyb and edelbrocks was that they feature self adjusting valveing. I have a 4x4 and still venture off road a bit so I thought this feature may be an all around winner. Should I still consider bilsteins and will they give me the dual purpose performance that I"m looking for?

Hey Guys,

I am interested in ordering some Edelbrocks but it seems like every site I go to lists the part# for my application as something different.

I have a 2000 QC 2WD 4.7L.

So, is it the 33410/34410's or the 3384/3484's? Thanks..

I have 90K on my OEM shocks and they are *tired*. I just put in a pair of Rancho 9000's up front a couple weekends ago. WOW! It's like I added a beefier sway bar AND a pair of shocks. The truck is much tighter and precise in handling and brake dive is gone too. I think it's partly because of the polyurethane bushings that replaced the rubber ones from the old shock mounts. The valving is great and the adjuster let me tweak it perfectly.

This is my first pair of Ranchos and I am sold. Gotta do the rear next!!!! Bilsteins are a fine shock too, but I was pretty blown away by the Rancho and I like the adjusters :-) I doubt I'll ever readjust them, but the choice in tuning options was nice. Funny how the cheapest motorcycle gives you suspension adjustments from the factory but a 20K truck doesn't...

The folks at Hotchkis did not recommend their tuned Bilstein shocks on a standard set up. I aked because I thought it might leave the door open to adding the rest of the kit later.
Check the post "shock test drive" I just posted.
Let me know if you have any more questions.

When you're replacing the stock shocks, especially tired ones, anything is going to feel much better. Bilsteins are generally considered to be one of the best performance shocks on the market but, since I was putting these on a vehicle that's going to see a variety of terrains and conditions, I went with the Edelbrocks IAS shocks and have been very happy with them. They control front end dive and cornering roll very well plus they adjust for when the road gets rough.

Of course, if you're going to be doing a lot of offroading, you probably don't want the Edelbrocks since they're a performance/light utility shock. For offroading the Ranchos would probably work better.

I just had the Edelbrock Performer IAS shocks Installed and what a big difference, I have a grill Guard on my 01 Dakota and the stock shocks seemed like they had a hard time with the weight of the grill guard. Go Edelbrock..

I replaced my stock shocks after 2 years old with KYB MonoMax. This was an improvement over the stockers. The KYBs would expand faster and felt more resistant in up and down motion (off the vehicle). I had a hard time compressing the rear shock to bolt them up. I can't compare them to Edelbrock IAS because I never had them. I found KYBs a little cheaper than Edlebrocks. I don't know how well KYBs will work with a 4x4, off road but on the street (4x2) they work great. Softer ride on bumps and less roll through the turns.
