Which gen1 headers are you talking about? Magnum or pre-Magnum? Magnum manifolds fit nicely, so get headers for the Magnum engine. They follow the same form-factor as the OEM manifolds. Consider yourself unscrewed.

All Gen I's had pre-Magnum engines. Any aftermarket 318 headers up through 1991 should fit. The first GenII with the "aero" nose came out in '91, but with the old-style 318. The Magnum design started in 1992.

Yes, I know this. My question was pertaining to the design of the headers in question. The pre-Magnum style follows a more conventional downward, then back style, while Magnums sweep back, then downward.

???? if it matters... im pretty sure ANY gen1 or gen2 headers will fit any gen1 or gen2 small block...
but my original question was-

Actually, you asked if gen2 headers would fit, which is why I asked Magnum or pre-Magnum. Now, while Mopar may say there are only two generations of Daks, it's generally considered by the consumers that there are three generations. As to your question, which I clearly answered in my first reply in this thread, yes, Magnums fit easily in gen1daks.

duh, that doesnt matter! the exaust mounting flanges are the same for magnum AND pre-mag engines. therefor, yes tailg8n any GenII v8 headers will fit your pre-mag engine in your gen1 dakota. regardless if they are for a mag or not. thanks.
