Subject: lifter noise???
IP: Logged

Message:
Hey guys. I gotta 99 3.9l Dakota with 50k. There is a very faint rattle type noise coming from the motor. I've had some places look at it and most of them say it sounds like a slight lifter noise, but nothing to be concerned about. what do you all think and is there anything I can do to reduce or stop the noise?
Thanks for the help.

as far as I know. the only way to quieten a lifter is replace it.and if its a roller lifter thier 13 to 15 bucks a piece.I've got one that makes a hell of a noise when you crank it,most the time and sometimes it will go a while and not do it.its a hassle to change them out,but if you do, change them all.I decided not to worry about mine. but I do have to change my timing chain cause it rattles like crazy. I'm going to run mine till it pukes and then i'm going to drop a 360 in it.just something to play with.its a 93 southern comfort custom.but its only got 80,000 on it.I bought it 3 years ago and it only had 42,000 on it,but its a lousy 3.9 v6.but it was hard to pass up for 5 grand.jesss man I rambled on there didnt I?sorry

Well, a few places I took it to said the timing chain and the others said lifters. I myself think it's the timing chain cause I know the 3.9's are bad for wearing them out, but I just dunno. I'd just like to get a few ideas from you guys.
thanks again
