My nephew just got a 2001 celica but he got the GT not the GTS.It is 140hp 5 speed,and we are probably going to race at the local strip soon.I can find lots of numbers on the GTS but not much on the GT.Anyone have any experience with these cars?It is a pretty oddball match but I suspect It might be a close race.

This car makes 140 HP at 6400 RPM's and 125 lb-ft of torque at 4200 RPM's. The Celica won't be too fast off the line, but it doesn't weigh much so it might gain on you considering you have an Auto with a 4X4. I'm thinking you could take him though. I don't know much about these cars, but in your favor, I've heard they're not that fast.

I don't mean to offend you, Swampdak, but I just GOTTA know.....
Why is it that so many 4x4 Dak owners are striving for "drag-strip" performance?
You GOTTA KNOW that you're at a HUGE weight disadvantage already, and you'll never keep up with a 2WD, so why do you look towards off-the-line acceleration (as opposed to muscle-grunt torque for semi-verticle climbin')?
Just a 2WD curious __ck.

Dude, I agree we have a few pounds on our 2wd counterparts BUT the 4x4's can still kick some serious ass. I see a my 4x4 in the 12's when I'm done, I think thats a pretty damn admirable goal, esp when I make it.

Good luck on the 12's Shawn. Drinks are on me if you get a truck that size to run that fast. You will deserve it for it will take a lot including the bottom end I am sure. I am hoping for 12's from my R.C 2 WD and that alone will take a lot.
I tried to get a Celica GTS (190 hp) to bite cruising by slowly but no dice. That car sure looks fast compared to my Dak (Actually my Dak does look fast) but it would be nothing short of a slaughter for the truck. Still can't beleive some stock inexpensive trucks man handle a great number of the so called sports cars on the road today.

Thanks for the response guys I am going to race him because he is my nephew and it will be fun.Broeheem - one of the things I like best about my dak is that it is like the swiss army knife of trucks,it does a pretty good job of just about anything you ask it.One of the things it does really well is accelerate,it is the first 4x4 I have had that could, so going to the drags is just another value added to my investment.Plus I have laid so much sh*t on the kid that I REALLY CANT GET OUT OF IT!!! My sister (his mom)is not to happy about this.You guys with the 4x2's cant have all the fun.
