Several factors can affect MPG. One that is often overlooked is tire pressure changes when the air temperature drops. If you had a cold snap in your area lately, check your tires. Remove the rubber flap between the radiator and the headlight for more cold air to the intake.

I wish I got 286 miles to the tank in my R/T, or even 266 for that matter. I'd be happy with that if I were you. I have the mods you have plus many more and my average is around 220 to a tank.

If you bought an R/T why are you worried about gas milage? As you new they sucked for milage before you bought it.

If you wanted gas milage you should have bought a V6.

Now to answer your question the computer simply calculates it based on your latest milage figures. So if your last tank full for example gave you poorer milage the computer will then reestimate your next estimated milage per tank now that you have refilled.
If you get higher this time around then the next calculation will change for the better next time.

V6? he could have orderd a 5 speed 4.7 V8.

Usally if the temp. gets colder. The gas millage gets a bit better. I'm getting around 18 now since the temp. is a bit bellow 62 degrees.

Skip the computer and do "old tech" with a pen and paper. Fill the tank, record odometer mileage, drive, refill the tank, subtract the old odometer reading from the new (or use the trip odometer), divide the gallons into the mileage= instant mpg to the tenths/hundredths/thousandths.

If you sit parked with the engine running for a while,it will affect the computers mileage calculation, period.

Hi, i am a member of a high school supermileage team and i was wondering if you could give me an accurate equation to finding estimated gas mileage, or even a reference i could look into.

Thank you for your time,
