For 2001 4.7s, I thought Mopar gave up on a Performance PCM due to EPA testing?

Hypertech should have a Power Programmer for the 4.7 due around August or late summer.

I've heard more positive then bad results with the Jet Chip Stage II

BTW, any issues with installing a 180 degree thermostat with no mods other then a drop in K&N, don't need a chip with this, right?

Thanks.

Just so happens that I just installed a Jet Stage 2 module and a poweraid tb spacer yesterday. I could instantly tell a difference. I completely forgot the reset everything and did that at lunch while ago. Now I can tell and even bigger difference. I highly recommend them. The Jet modules work very well with free flowing intakes and exhaust setups. According to them, the stage 2 works best with those mods and a 180 t-stat. have to use 93 gas though. They also have the stage 1 module that is not quite as aggressive as the stage 2. It does not require 93 gas but gets more performance with it. I plan on getting some new plugs and t-stat this weekend. Expect that it will just get better as time goes and I put more toys on. (money permitting) Keep in mind I got lucky and have only 1 cat on mine where a lot of 4.7's have 3 cats. Performance on mine may be a tad better because of this.

I use a JET stage II chip much like Hawkeye and I love it. One thing is important to remember however. Make sure you use all the insulation that is provided to make the chip as water resistant as possible. On my 1989 Dakota, I installed a JET chip and left it exposed to the air. Well, when I went through an auto carwash, some water got in there and it wouldnt start until I waited 4 hours for it to dry. Then I decided to use the insulation that JET provides and have not had any problems. Seems to work great and I gained some power.

I think that the insulation only comes with the chips. For the newer Daks, they use a plug in module. Just a tad different. Mine didn't come with any insulation. where it plugs in at is pretty well protected and it fits pretty tight anyway. Just didnt want anyone to be looking for the insulation and think they were missing it.
Or am I just missing mine?? hehe! Plug in and enjoy!
Ryan, I think I remeber you saying you lived out west somewhere? Where bouts? I am here in the lovely state of Florida.

Hey Guys,

I do hope the Jet chips continue to perfom for you.

Unfortunately although they gave me some initial performance, I have not had very good luck with them(I've had 2 on this truck).

The following is a post I just sent to the DML and share with you here.

Had the chance to Gtech the truck yesterday and the Sunday before. Last
Sunday I ran with the IAT box, then changed over to the Jet for
yesterday. Air temps for the 2 days were 87* approx. Humidity
variation +/- 5 percent.

Here are the results of 3 good runs each day-brace yourself!

Lowest Gtech to Lowest Gtech IAT won by 10rwhp.
Average Gtech to Average Gtech IAT won by 15rwhp.
Highest Gtech to Highest Gtech IAT won by 15rwhp.

Whether the Jet quit working, never worked, or whatever, these numbers
are sure meaningful to me. Let me know what you think.

Best,

jc

Used the Jet Stage II on my 01 4.7 and did see a difference, I can chirp 3rd gear and I could not do it before. Have 5 speed and 3.55 limited slip.
However for all out performance have a custom flash done www.krcperformance.com they will advance the timing 6 degrees instead of the Jet 3 degrees, also they will take in account your setup, (mods, gears, transmission) and custom tailor your program to your needs. (1/4 mile or towing) Currently they can't do the 2001 modules but can do 2000 and older.

Later,
Bill

Bill-

How much does KRC want to flash the module? I have your same powertrain setup (4.7, 3.55, stick, limited slip) and I need more power.

Sorry, I really don't publish those specifics but baseline new was about 175rwhp. It's more now but 10-15 rwhp is a noticeable difference.

Hey Bill. You mentioned you can now chirp third gear with 3.55's now that you have the chip. I am not trying to brag with my next comment but I have 3.92 gears and L.S. This thing chirps 3rd rather easily stock. Just trying to add this for those that were doing a gearing comparison. Are you also reg cab?

Hawkeye, did the Jet Stage II improve shift points?? I have the exact same vehicle: 2000 QC 4x4 Auto 3.55's 4.7L V8. Mine was built in June of 2000 & has 3 cats. I had no idea they made the same year model with only one cat? Them bastards! Anyway, that may explain why I couldn't get a Jet satge II to work at all. I did what the manual & tech assistance line said to & when I went to turn over the engine it wouldn't start, the engine light stayed on too. Oh well, I only paid $219 for it & got back all my money. I inquired KRC about doing a flash & they quoted me $400-ouch! Their flash doesn't improve shift points, this is an area that I definitely want to improve upon. Switching to 3.92's or 4.11's for more bottom end is about $1500 for the 4x4. I think I will just wait for a custom programmer from Hypertech or SuperChips. They will probably run around $500 but you can set the shift points & recalibrate for different tire/gears all of which the custom flashes fall short of. Also, you can save the stock setup for emission/inspection time. I have a Superchips contact who claims they will be releasing one for the 4.7L soon. If not, the custom flash sounds like the next best thing.

Doug,
I too wanted a Hypertech programmer for the same reasons. I was told by them that they were developing a programmer for the 4.7 but then someone else put up a post saying that Hypertech told them they were'nt doing any thing for the new Dakotas. I didnt want to wait so I went ahead and go the jet. I dont belive that it changes the shift points any. Dont know why yours didnt want to work right for you. THe cats wouldnt have anything to do with it. All that means is that you have 5 horsepower less than I do with only the one cat. Also, things like the JBA headers will see a little better gains on the one cat than say someone with the 3 cats. You can tell if you have 3 cats without ever opening the hood to look. Just look at your window sticker. If your horsepower rating on the window sticker is 230 HP then you have the 3 cats. If it is 235 like mine, then you only have 1.
