no, lockers basically "lock" the axles together... keep them spinning at the same rate. Good for offroad and drag strip. Sux for street use and daily drivers.

Now the limited slip uses clutch packs to let one axle move at a different rate while doing turns and stuff like that. Trac Lok is just the Mopar name for late model LSD's. It use to be sure grip... you know, kinda like chevy has positraction.

limited slip

my brother has/had 4.10 gears, locker and 33" mud terrains... killed three axles in that thing.

we finally ordered a 30 spline axle kit for it.

the post didn't mention any offroading. Are you doing this and just driving in the city for commuting or are you going offroad? If it's just city driving, leave the rear open and forget about LSD or lockers.

The new Dakotas (of maybe even the old) have decent limited slip rear-ends. They do what they are supposed to do. Both wheel will spin. I paid extra for the limited slip in my 2000 F150 and it didn't work at all - Ford said it was engineered to unlock "early" due to a comfort factor because most (older) people don't want tires squealing going around corners or the noise created when the differential "locks and unlocks (slips)". Needless to say.. I had a lot of problems on slick boat ramps. With the Dodge - no problem - two rubber marks all the way up the ramp!!! :)
