Subject: Weird noise from engine?
IP: Logged

Message:
OK I think I might have an exhaust leak but i'm not sure. When i start it up it almost sounds like there is air coming out somewhere in the engine compartment. Also the exhaust isn't quite as loud as it wAS BEFORE THE NOISE STARTED. But I can't find where the leak is coming from. I can also hear it real good when i have like a wall on each side of me and it echos off it. Anyone have any ideas? I still have the stock exhaust from the manifolds to the cat. Thanks

Maybe a vaccum leak. Do you have a M1? Is it sealed correctly?

Just put your hand over the tailpipe to check for an exhaust leak.

If there is then it should be pretty obvious where the exhaust is escaping. If no leak you'll feel the pressure.

That doesn't really sound like a grade A idea. Unless maybe you have a friend and a bucket of cold water. Even if you put your hand over the tailpipe you can't be in two places at once. So how could you find the leak, unless you have a friend. That and as far as I know. If you can hold the preasure with your bare hands, your truck wont run at the same time. Not unless the leak is very big. And if you do this you should obviously do it real soon after you start your engine so you don't burn a pretty ring in the palm of your hand. But I could be wrong about all if this, because I am no technician. I would like to think that Iknow a little bit about preasure, and thermal Dynamics, but nothing says that I actually do.

Rat of course I'm not gonna do it by myself ! And I'm not gonna put my hands on hot azz tailpipes. Thanks for the common sense pointers but not necessary.
Anyways I did try it and It just wants to stall I can't hear any air escaping anywhere. I dunno I think I'll just take it in the shop and see what they find. Thanks for the help.

Wow. It's a really good thing that spelling does not have anything to with intelligence. Because I would be pretty stupid. Have you noticed if the problem occurs after the engine has warmmed up? My truck did the same thing, but after it had warmmed up it would stop, so I just re-torqued the header bolts. It could even be a faulty Fuel injector. At least that's what I've heard. Sorry but I did not mean to come off like a jerk, and I did not intend to sound like that bastard friend that always tells you what you already know. Sorry if I wasted your time or patience.

It's cool it just sounded like you were bein a ahole like alot of people on here are.

I was thinking about the injector thing because there is a ticking noise now after warm up though it isnt constant. It goes away when I idle for a couple seconds. Kinda weird. Then it comes back when i start driving again.
