I got em in my 4.7 4X4 Don't notice a difference preformance-wise, they do tend to help keep the mud and bugs off of the rad. I do a lot of wheelin, so they have been a good asset that way.
Bear in mind that intake air comes in from the fender well snd not the grill, so I think that it is really a non-issue. Watch out if you decide to go to a "K&N" type air filter system, they flo more air, but they flo more dirt also. Talk to your local AMSIOL rep for more details, before you buy one of those systems. You'll be glad you did.

I'm glad I have my K & N. The dirtier they get, the cleaner they flow; while other filters just clog up.

I've had inserts for about a month and have'nt noticed a difference, I have a homebrew w/flap removed. With the size of the grill and valance opening I don't think there's a problem with air restriction. Besides the inserts make the truck look like it's going 5mph faster than it really is. Flames adds another 10mph. A hoodscoupe adds 15mph. And tractionbars add about 7mph.

Yes in theory if the inserts, depending on where you intake is getting air, blocked off enough air, it could affect the motor. The commonly used grill inserts in no way are going to block enough of anything. If anything would start getting affected, it would be air for cooling.
