I don't know who all has seen this electric blower on Ebay, but I'm kinda stunned to see this. The idea makes sense, it's just the same but not belt drivin. I don't know that I'd pay $130 for it, but I'm sure you could find something simalar for cheaper. If anybody knows any related information on prevous done mods Let me know. Or if this would cause problems, or even work?

It doesn't work. The whole idea started as a joke by a friend of mine, and now people are actually selling this junk to people saying it will. Don't waste your time with it. Real power costs lots of money and isn't that easy to slap on. The cheapest power adder you can get is a nitrous system and they start out around $500. Don't feel bad, lots of people wondered if that thing would work, but trust me it wouldn't.

The crap you see on eBay is about as useful as a TB spacer or a NOS sticker on your truck. the "eRam" or "electric superchargers" they're selling are nothing more than fans. Fans don't provide any useful boost. It might be argued that they add an almost imperceptible amount of "ram-effect boost" -- but come on. Ask one of those companies if you can see (1) dyno sheets, and (2) how much actual boost they provide for your engine. They'll probably stop answering your calls / emails pretty quick.

However, check this out:
http://www.visteon.com/technology/automotive/vtes.shtml

A few other companies make a similar product, an actual electric-driven super/turbo charger, mainly for small diesel engines (about 1-3 liters) -- while one I've seen is used to supplement an existing traditional turbo (and compensate for large turbo lag) in a concept vehicle's larger V8 engine by providing rapid, small amounts of boost (4-5 psi) for up to about 8-10 seconds. The whole theory is sound, unfortunately electromagnetic motor technology isn't up to the task yet to provide good, usuable boost for engines as large as what's in something like our daks, especially with a 12-14 volt system. When we all go to 42-volts, we might start seeing something like this, though. Remember that to provide useable boost for a standard street V8, a turbo/supercharger will need to suck about 30-50 horsepower from somewhere in order to work -- it's more than made up for by the performance added, but right now a 12V electric motor hooked up to our onboard charging system is just not going to be able to put out those kind of numbers.

Best bet right now is a supercharger for bolt-on ease and the proliferation of kits on the market. Turbos are more efficient, but unless you're a welder or you're good drinking buddies with an awesome metal fabricator...

By the way, didn't KRC performance say they were working on a twin turbo kit for 4.7 rams and daks? Hell, I'd be happy with a Duner-style single turbo kit.

I put one on my Dakota and it won't stop popping wheelies at green lights!!!! Gets 42.6 MPG too!!!

REALLY---- I have two of these in my boat--- they are called bilge blowers. Their primary function in life is to suck the fuel vapors out of the hull so nothing goes spark-boom. that's all

You can be funny if you want, but i'm sure i'm not the only one out there wondering about this. If it was totally out of the question, some dumbazz wouln't have put it on Ebay. But then again i've seen some pretty stupid stuff on there: )

at roarinc.com they have the same kind of things there, and I seen in an old sport truck magazine they had the elec. fans in a new products section of the page. Recently at napa they had similar items for boats an in-line blower 3" and 4" models they were only $30 for 140 to 250 cfm. I did some checking around and i found a 250cfm 4" fan for $20 bucks. So i put in on in front of my aluminum cold air intake and relocated iat sensor. My truck now pulls much better than it ever has, and much easier to spin the tires off the line. It only cost me about $25 bucks for the whole set up, so far it is worth it!!

Hey dakruzr, What was the name of the one that you bought? And really, did it do anything, NO Shlt? Did you wire it up to a switch, if so can you tell when you turn it on?

hmmm...I wonder how many people with timeslips and dyno sheets run with these electric "eBay eRams"? And butt dyno's are just shy of worthless. Hell, when I wash and wax my truck, my butt dyno is positive I must have gained at least 5-10 horsepower.

Hey you guys, I put a bilge blower on my 1981 ATC 185S 3-Wheeler. It puts out 12 volts. The blower on such a small engine works WONDERS. You could also try it on your lawnmower if you wanna cut your grass at 30 MPH. Im serious about this. But on a v6 or v8 car or truck...thats just stupid. Think about it guys, I think the best blower on the market now puts out just under 200 CFM. Look at any of the flow rates of your T.B.'s They are over 300 CFM on the v6. Just my $.02

Sorry, Hughes Hngines says that a stock v6 T.B. flows 328 CFM. A modified oone flows 469 CFM. Thats well over two times the flow rate. Those blowers wouldnt make even a pund of boost.

Those things are total B.S.

Only a sucker would be desperate enough to buy something on eBay like that. Some of the best deals I've ever had were from great sellers on eBay. But then again there's the scammers who wait for the suckers.

I wouldn't mind truly building a home made supercharger, but it would take some serious work and those things have tight tolerences to provide boost and efficiency. I have a turbo lying on my garage flow I'd LOVE to modify if I could do it.
Home brewed is the best, just don't buy that inline fan from that loser!

I've heard stories about these causing damage too. Your engine sucks more air than the blower pushes. So when you're at higher RPMs the air getting sucked through actually makes the blower spin faster, beyond what is designed for. It can break/shatter/explode into pieces that will then get sucked straight into your engine. That cheap little piece of crap could cost you thousands.

I've got another home made question. You are all the time seeing these chips on ebay for like $20, when someone asks about them on here, they say that you can get the same thing at Radio Shack. Does anybody know anything about this, and if so does it work?
