 Subject: 1990 3.9 L V-6 Power Loss

My 1990 3.9 L V-6 Dakota P/U losses power on slight upgrades. Plugs,Ignition wires,fuel supply,vacuum look good. In Neutral engine accelerates fine - timing advances great. In Drive running against the foot brake
RPM is limited to about 1200 RPM and timing retards 15+ degrees - no more RPM even if accelerator is pushed to the floor. Initial Timing is 10 deg BTDC. Any ideas to help would be appreciated>

I own a 1989 3.9L V6 4x4,and if I were you, I would perform a self diagnostic check on the engine's computer using the CHECK ENGINE light. Follow these directions:

This will allow you to see the codes for any problems in the computer, which is fed information from all of your sensors. Sounds to me like its a sensor problem. Speed sensor? throttle position sensor? Temperature sensor?
Its really hard to say without doing one of these Fault code diagnostic checks. Do it and get back here and let us know what it told you.

OK guys heres the info: two codes came up after I went thru the "Check Lite" procedure. I repeated the foot brake test prior to checking codes:
12 Battery power cut in last 50-100 cycles,Memory stand by power lost(Battery was not disconnected)
55 end of codes
That's it - any help????

Here's more info -
Compression checks 140-150 psi
EGR Valve opens and closes
Pulling one plug wire at a time makes engine run rough-so each cylinder is working
