Subject: Beat an R/T Durango!

My truck is an '03 4.7 5sp RC with no mods except at drop-in K&N filter. I was cruising down a street at 40 mph (speed limit) and a R/T Durango roared past. From what I could observe, he had an aftermarket exhaust. I don't know what was under the hood. At the next light I pulled up next to him and told my friend we were going to race. I didn't look at the durango driver but when the light turned green I took off. No wheelspin (I never do... don't rev up enough?) but I took off all the same. Shifted to 2nd and ran up to 5k, shifted to 3rd and backed off about 50ish... The durango was about at my bumper and roared past still accelerating when I backed off. I think they were mad because at every light after they had to roar off or zip around people.. probably to make a point. Funny thing is I got 22 mpg on that trip too... I doubt the R/T did that.

RT Durango's are too heavy to be fast...try a 2wd 5.9 Durango it would be a different outcome. RT Durango's run a 17.00 in the quarter my 2wd Durango runs a 15.8 granted you may still be able to beat me but it wouldn't be as easy. Later.

Sure, a cookie would be great! It's just a triumph, if it ruffles your feathers stop reading it.

You can call it a race if the other guy doesn't expect it, and you beat him.

I am just sayin, you own the 4.7l rc 5 speed, your truck is an Import killer, and your on this dakota site bragging about how you (barely) "beat" a durango r/t.... a 17 second SUV....your in a 14 second truck (or so it should be in the 14s)....whats the fun in that? try racing a rc R/T then come back with your results.

You're proud?? I'd be upset since the Durango is much, much heavier. You sound like you're 16 years old.

There are countless stories on this forum describing RT owners racing this exact same way. From what I have seen, RT drivers are the ones that creep up on someone then fly by and call it a win. You know thats what happen when you left that Z28 or GT in the dust. If you think he was racing you're kidding yourself. All I have to say on the subject is that it is very easy to tell if someone was intending to beat you in a race and if they obviously weren't, don't call it a victory. However, I have noticed that most RT drivers WILL post these as victories.

Not to take more wind out of your sails,...

but depending on the year it was made, that RT Durango may have been full time 4WD too. Mine is. That means in addition to pushing all that weight, it was also turning a lot of gears to boot.

But anyway congrats on your "First Kill".

Now go to the track and stop racing on the streets.

You guys... I'm not a racer, I'm a slow 'n steady driver. I got the competitive bug in me this one time and was surprised at the performance of my truck. That's all. I'm not out to run 1/4 miles, 0-60... I'm just proud of my truck and wanted to say something about it. Racing on the street... I wasn't going 100mph, I stopped at 50, whats the harm in that? Sorry I brought it up. It's funny how this is more controversal than those who actually have technical questions. Who cares what/who you can beat in the end. There is always a car faster than yours. I'm impressed with the Dakota lineup, I wanted to voice my pride. I'm not 16... add 10 years.

Snake,
Don't worry about these chumps. This forum is useless unless you enjoy flame wars, ridiculous arguements, and discussions of the best spark plug and oil filter to use. The reason you were accused of being 16 is because that is the age group of most of the users of this forum and it really shows. However, I'm not dissing it. I'm 20 and I find all of it very entertaining and visit daily to see all of the childsplay. :) If you want real technical help on anything there are a few knowledgeable souls here, otherwise, check out another forum.
