No.

Larger gears do not destory your "high-end." It helps out all over the RPM band. It destroy's high speed driving by just turning a higher RPM, but that will be over the speed limit.

If you don't cruise long distances over 75, you'll be perfectly fine. I turn 3600 RPM at 90 mph on my 4.56s w/ 25.6" tires. Which is about the equivalent to running a ~5.28 ratio on my stock tires. This is in the 4.7L 5th gear (0.73).

You have an automatic, so your 4th gear OD is a bit lower than my 5th gear and your tires are probably a couple inches taller.

4.56s are wonderful and the performance is hard to beat for the money. They are worth every cent in my opinon. I've been running them for about 2000+ miles now.

It won't really destroy it, just wear it out faster because of the higher RPM's over the 3.92's.

The tranny is weak anyway its gonna go one way or another haha.

Just get em and have fun.

id like to get the 4.56 gears but wanted to know if its possible to put a taller overdrive ratio in an auto tranny to make up for the lost mileage on the highway.

With good oil and regular changes, the extra wear it should cause isn't a big problem. You'll be doing more work, so it would make sense to change your oils at a sooner interval.

It's my clutch I'm worried about..

With 255/55R17 and 4.56 gears in (518)Overdrive 70mph is a about 2640rpms. You can get an idea of what it will feel like if you turn your OD off. The difference is that you'll be going 12-15mph faster with the 4.56s in OD.

I am debating the same issue with my 1990 Dak2wd, auto. I have 31 in tires now with 3.21s. No Torq at all! terrible. So I am about to squeeze a 33x1050 on it and I was thinking of running 4.10s. But now I am thinking 4.56s. I do drive HW everyday however. Only for about 6 miles tho. With occasional trips to my parents home about 4 hours away. I have got many differing opinions. Whatd yall think? Thanks for the help.
