How strong is your welder? Do you need a really powerful welder to cut piping and cut off cats and such? And weld also. How many volts and amps do you think you would need to cut and weld that? I can get a welder for $70 that is 50 amps and 120 volts i think at the local pawn shop and another one for $100 that is 70 amps and i dunno how many volts maybe 150? I dunno, but do you think that would cut pipes? If not how powerful do you need one? And what other things would be a good reason to have a welder for so i have a excuses to get one ? :)

dude, at your local car store, they have a pipe cutter for about 14 bucks. its a handle with a chain that has cutting wheels on it. u wrap it around the pipe and ratchet it a few times and thats it.

Not to be rude or nothing, i dont mean any disrespect but.....

If you know how to weld you should at least know how much power it will take to do aluminum. If you dont I'll tell you this....aluminum is VERY hard to melt. It takes alot of power. My home welder goes up to 150 amps and I wont even touch the stuff here. I'll only do aluminum on the industrial welder at work. If you want a clean leak free weld for years to come get it done at a shop or go all stainless.

ok. you should braze exaust pipe with a torch and coat hanger.or if you have a 100 amp wire welder it works pretty good that is if you are a good welder. as for cutting the pipe, I used a sawsall, and it works pretty good but its not easy cutting a straigt line in such tight spaces.I did all my exaust, and by the time I was done I wished I just payed someone. Its a real hassel without a lift, cause Im getting to d&mn old to crawl around on concrete.

Yeah...get some o2 and ecetalyene (sp?). Cut the damn pipe (pretty simple). For a welder, dont spend $100....spend $400-500 for a decent one (so that you can weld other things later on that break).

Trust me, investments are great.

First question... why are you using a welder to cut pipe? Why aren't you using a Oxygen/Accetlyine torch? Cuts through aliminum and steel like a hot knife through butter. Just be careful with the flame and you'll be fine. Welder.... sheeeesh might as well be using a soldering iron.

Personally I would use a pipe cutter....But if I had a choice between a torch or a welder id definatlly take the welder....It'll cut and weld heavy stuff if it needs to

Aluminum exhaust?

It is more like galvanized steel I believe.

I cut mine with a 18 volt sawzall. Made my own reducers so I also used a rotary cutting blade.
I welded it back together with my wire feed welder.
