I've been checking out headers lately for dakotas but I was wondering if I put on performance headers do I need to change the cat. Also which headers out there are the best for the 4.7L.

All of the headers available currently are shorty headers. In the case of the 4.7L these do not yield very much horsepower. Most header dealers i've spoken with say about 12rwhp at the most is what you can expect. At we'll say $500 average for a set of headers you're paying just over $41 for 1rwhp. Thats not a very good deal.

I'm guessing you have a '03 Dak which means you have two pre-cats and 1 main cat. If I were you I would wait for about a year or so. By then I think DemonDakota,a member on this site, will have probably finished and may be ready to market his full length headers for a dual exhaust setup. If I do have the money by the time these are available I plan on getting some. They will run straight back with a single free-flow cat on the end of each header. From there you could have an exhaust shop run you a pair of mandrel bent pipes and the muffler(s) of your choice.

disclaimer: I am in now way affiliated with DemonDakota or his headers. Just another 4.7L owner anxiously awaiting the finished product.

YEAH it seems far away. Guess until then I'll just have to run open header.

"Honestly officer, I'm waiting on a guy to finish designing some full lengths so I can complete my exhaust.. Yes I know it's too loud, but we'll just have to live with it until next year."
