So I've read forums until my brain has turned to mush. Basically it seems it personal preference on the brand ordered, everyone has something to say.

Here is my dilema. I was quoted $350 for a flowmaster muffler, labor, and converting to split dual pipes. I *guess* this will just make my truck sound better, not really do much for performance.

OR

Spend $300 and get a gibson dual sport cat-back or JBA Evol cat back and do the work myself. Probably get better peformance outta this setup but no split dual rear =(

Thoughts?

I suggest doing a search on this site and find the sound clips for the MBRP dual set up. Its not just a sound difference but a performance increase. You seriously will be very happy that you went with MBRP. The compliments and looks are worth it alone.

MBRP dude!

What year is your truck? Ebgine, drive, etc. I paid $280 for my exhaust. Flowmaster 40 with dual pipes. Removal of the cat and staright pipe replacement. Everything was put just where I wanted it and with the components I wanted.
for you, if your looking for performance, get a free flowing cat, or loose it all together. With our trucks, they are not putting out enuf HP and tq to have an exhaust make a huge difference NEway. So If you want to go all perf., got with a no cat, true dual system. If you want good perf, good sound, good price system, Id go with a single in dual out muffler of your choice, a free flowing cat, and have a shop do it. That way you get all pipes exactly where you want them, the tips you want and where you want them, etc. You have a more custom system with a shop. Otherwise, you get the same JBA or qhatever system many other people have. Good Luck.

I had the same dilema. I decided to just piece together my system. I spent the past few weeks just looking everywhere for the right stuff for the right price. I eventually made out with a 3" in/out Carsound Cat and a 3" single in/out Flowmaster 40 (both found brand new on Ebay). I bought 4' of 3" pipe and a 2 1/2" to 3" adapter from Summit. I will use the factory 3" R/T tail pipe and am in the process of making the hangers. I will be putting it all together in a couple of weeks once I have everything and get a good weekend to work on it. Its been a pain in the ass trying to hunt down everything I wanted, and if I had the money I probably would have bought the MBRP or another really cool exhaust system. However, when its all said and done, I will have a pretty nice exhaust for under $200. The point I'm trying to make is that if you want a really nice system, you basically have to either shell out the bucks to buy one or just build it yourself. Good Luck.

I, too, have read the forum extensively looking for the best exhaust alternatives for my 318. Cost was a factor along with performance. I opted for the SS magnaflow 2.5in Sin/Sout ($120 installed) on a stock header/cat setup. Some forum comments indicated there would be a loss in low end performance but I actually picked up a noticeable increase in throttle response across the entire accel band. Very little cabin resonance compared to the 40 series Flowmaster and it has a mellow pulsating sound above 2000 rpm. If you are looking for loudness, this would not be the choice.
