Dunno if I'm boring you guys with my probably repeat questions, but I'm 2 weeks away from my truck's ship date and I don't have a clue which cat-back dual exhaust setup to buy. I've seen a few posts on the Gibson and Flowmaster setups for the 3.9L, but I'm wondering what setup would work out best for my 5.9L quad cab? If you were in my boat, which setup would you choose? I want a nice tone (gotta hear me comin') and some more power. Dunno if this makes any difference or not, but I plan on running the K&N system on the air intake too. Whatcha say guys? What should I do? Thank ye thank ye

I would go with the gibson system. Its done a great job with my 5.2, it looks great, and everybody knows when I'm coming. In my opinon gibsons system sounds alot cleaner and deeper.

I looked hard at both and selected the Flowmaster for two reasons.

Better performance and better sound.

I've read good things about the Flowmaster setup too. Patrick -- what muffler did you go with? 40? 50? something else?
Thanks for the ideas, guys

I have the Gibson on my 2.9L Ranger with a 5sp and it sounds SWEET! Made my V-6 sounds like a V-8, nice rumble without being obnoxious. Good price and went on easily. BTW, get the stainless, little more money but much longer lasting.

If it's brand new, you can save yourself some money and just replace the factory muffler with a 2.5" IN / 2.5" OUT Dynomax muffler. The Flowmasters do sound very good, but don't quite flow as good as the Dynomax mufflers. (I'm an old Flowmaster person so this was hard for me to believe as well...but it's true.)

So, Bernd, you're saying replace the muffler only? How does that sound vs. cat-back duals? I've got cat-back dual pipe (no mufflers) setup on my F150 right now. Will the single pipe setup still sound decent? And, in your experiences, is there any model Dynomax muff that sounds better/worse?
Money really isn't the factor here ... I really just want a mean sounding, attention-grabbing setup...hehehe :o)

Yeah, I have a brand new 4.7 L quad cab. If I can just replace the muffler than great. Will it still sound good?? I would rather stay away from dual exhaust options because this is a work truck and my dad (read boss) would probably go through the roof if he knew I already mod'd this truck. hehe

I replaced the factory muffler with a 40 Series Flowmaster - works great and sounds great - Deep low rumble at idle and not obnoxious when I get into it.

Cool. After visiting Dynomax's web site and listening to the wav files of their mufflers, I think I'm going to go with their UltraFlow muff. Got quite the aggressive growl! Hope it sounds that way with a single pipe!!

The sound from a single or dual tip system is personal preference. I have a dual tip system and love it. I've heard a single tip system as well and to me, it sounds "one sided". ;) (And ya don't have that muscle truck look with the dual 3" Crome Tips.)

I hearrrrrrr what you're saying, Bernd. But I hate to throw away a brand new stainless steel muffler and tailpipe...haha. I'd probably have trouble selling my OEM setup, don'tcha think?

The just replace the muffler for now. You'll still have a nice sound and performance will improve as well.

Does Dynomax make a dual tip cat back exhaust system for the 4.7L engine? If so are there any links where I could find it?
