Subject: Airy Engine sound until 50MPH
IP: Logged

Message:
MY truck when you start it makes a real airy sound. The engine is louder than the exhaust and it sounds horriable. It doesn't go to the regular engine sound unless I get past 50 bph. I don't know if my gears are slipping and my trans is about to go out or what? Any advice? Sometimes if I sit at a light for awhile it will go back to being really airy and it pisses me off. Thanks

this may be ur engine fan because they tend to make that air sound at slow speeeds and at initial startup so see if u can take it off temporarily and if it quiets down than that is the problem. do a search on this site about how to take it off.

That happens to me quite a bit. The sound is sort of like a shop vac. It usually goes away once I pass 35 mph. It also happens if the truck has been idling for a while and I resume driving. The fan seems to rotate at a higher speed to cool things down. It's a little annoying, but nothing to worry about.
