hi all-
i was wondering whats the times of the quickest, street driven dakota? in the quarter mile i mean... was curious... im a drag guy and did some searching online and didnt find much. :( thought i would throw it to yall :) im hoping to get my pile of an 88 back together with some new shinny stuff in time for the cold weather ;)

also one other thing... for those who are running some numbers, what rearend u using and hows it set up? it would be sweet to slap in a 9 inch, but if i could build a stout locker 8.25 out of a 4x4 first gen that can handle 500-600hp id love to know. it would be easier to swap in (bolt it on up) and would let me have a little more jingle in my pocket for a paint job :) by the way im thinking of a juiced 416, indy headed stroker small block with a 727. that will wake up the neighbors! thanks in advance...
tex

There might be a new quickest Dakota soon. Scott Q from Cali is working on a new setup that has put over 600 hp to the ground. He ran the other day to a 11.27 with ok traction and that was without the nitrous. I think he'll be seeing mid to low 10's with it all dialed in. But then again. Who know's what Ron Merx has in the works ;-)

ron has a best 6.97 1/8th mi, which is quicker than his 1/8th in the 10.77 run. ron's 133 mph trap with the wheel spin he had is a low 10 second pass with traction. he just added the gs headers too. wonder what he'd run if he went with no tailgate and t cover.

You're right, I think he had like a 1.8 or 1.9 60 on that run. He's definetly got it in the low 10's or maybe even 9's if he really has it working right. Who's gonna be the first to get the low 10 or 9 slip? :-)

The gap from 10.77 to 10 flat is like going from 14.5 to 13 flat. Not exactly a cake walk.

The amount of effort and HP to drop ETs once you get into the 10's is like a parabolic curve.

True but shouldn't ron be cutting like a 1.5 or 1.6 60'? That would cut .3-.4 tenths right there maybe more. Yea it sux once you get that fast. Every tenth gets REAL expensive ;-)

1.5-1.6 in a CC Dakota?? Never heard of it being done even spraying out of the hole.

Problem is you're talking light ass end street truck. Hard to get traction and at some point all the HP in the world does you no good because you can't hook it up.

GraphiteRT, What kinda times did you get before the SC, and what are you doing now? What kinda Gears?
Can't you compensate with higher gears and fatter slicks or or does he already have to much HP for even that. I couldn't hook up and I got no engine mods yet. We were all spinning them as a matter of fact.

Never ran it before the blower. Only time to the track was last Fall 13.3@108 mph on 20" billet wheels and street tires(didn't have any slicks).

Not much traction even peddling it. Stock 3.92 gears, you can't go any higher with a blower because of the trap speeds. I believe Merx ran the same gear on his 10.77 pass.

Actually the quickest dakota that I know of is the Banks' Sidewinder. A generation III dakota style with a 5.9L turbo I6 Rated at 393 stock but after the Banks' work was done the output was up to 735 HP and 1300 Ft. Lb. tourque. The engine was so big that the dakotas firewall had to be moved back 18 inches. The Banks' Dakota project reached speeds in excess of 220 MPH. Wow I wish my plates were on that baby!!!

See ya guys.

You're confusing quick(ET) with fast(mph). The Sidewinder wins in the fast catagory.

The gearing it takes to run 220 mph wouldn't quite cut it on the dragstrip.
