I have looked into having a mold built to produce a "top hat" for a cold air induction setup specifically for the 92-96 318 Dakota Sports. It is not cheap and I was wondering how many people would be interested in such a product if it were available. It would basically be a zero restriction elbow to go from 3" OD PVC into the throttle body. This product would fit any setup with a 5" ID TB mounting surface. It would be an affective replacement for any factory top hat, reducing restriction, streightening out the air flow and reducing the amount of surface area the cool air comes in contact with between the outside and the TB.

Please give me some feedback so I know if this venture is worth persuing. If this becomes a possibility, I will sell this item to anyone who responds to this post, for my manufacturing cost.

Please send inquiries to performancenthusiasts@comcast.net.

Gen II's pretty much have this from the factory. One has to remove the grill to take a cover off...

I have already done that... It helps after long runs on the interstate, but when you are hopping from light to light the big metal top hat gets really damn hot!

I've built a PVC top hat already and the increase in throttle responce is very significant from a dead stop, and you can actually hold your hand on it after a drive. I would be willing to bet that you could drive a genII around for 5 minutes and would not be able to hold your hand on the factory top hat for more than 2 seconds, even after it sits for an hour or two! Not much use in pulling cool air from in front of te vehicle if it is heated before it reaches the TB.

I have a little more tinkering to do, but I should have a photo to post in the next couple of days. Again if there is enough interest, I will do some dyno pulls and prove what a well designed induction system can do!

you are retarded. how many people will spend money on a prduct we can make ourselfs. so your plastic thing is so much better. it is the same thing as removing the baffel from the grill. if you want an impovement remove the filter and the baffel.

Listen a$$ hole... I'm offering an opportunity for gen II owners to do what every other f'in Dakota owner can do, go buy what they want to improve the performance of their vehicle.

Your intelligence is obviously far superior to mine!!! How foolish of me to sell something that everyone can make for "themselfs"... OH WAIT... I think K&N has been making millions doing just that... but then again I'm a retard.

By the way... your recomended resolution for the problem still does not cope with the temperature issue. Have you ever wondered why people run lower temperature thermostats and relocate their IAT sensors?

But you did have one good idea... Next time your stopped at a red light and a Mustang pulls up next to you and revs the engine, pop the hood, jump out and remove your air filter! Why didn't I think of that!

In 5 sentences you proved your ignorance in more ways than I care to explain. Read this closely and remember, "It is better to remain quiet and thought to be a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Daktobasics, If I understand you correctly you want to make an "airhat" to replace the air cleaner assembly that comes on top of the TB on most gen2's? If so, Dodge beat you to it.....all you have to do is go to a junkyard and get an airhat from any v8 or 97 and newer Mag engine. They all came with an airhat, tubing and airbox assembly where the airbox is on the fender not over the TB.

If I missunderstood what your perposing plz excuse me.

You were not mistaken. I was not sure that the newer factory "airhats" would fit my application.

Correct me if I'm wrong... the FIPK's for the 97 and newer come with a piece to replace the factory hat, so, in theory, the FIPK filter assembly will fit my 94 but the heat shield will not?!?!? If this is so, I will simply purchase the K&N kit and modify or build a new shield and save myself alot of time!

Thanks for the heads up on the retrofit, and please correct me if my assumptions are incorrect. I have been building forced induction Mopars for several years and have recently purchased my Dakota to pull around my other little Mopar "toy".

If you don't mind me asking, what have you done for an induction upgrade on your GenII (looks like a sweet ride)?

I dont know anything about the "fipks", I build most all of my own stuff including my "cooler air induction" which consists of a factory airhat from a 96 Dodge Ram, PVC tubing leading to an Auto Zone cone clamp on filter with that piece removed from the rad support.

I have the above mentioned setup with a home ported V8 Tb.......oh and a little N2O. :-D

Oh..and thx for the compliment.
