I disconnected the speedometer on the rear dif and took the truck out on the "highway". I let er'rip. I never had the chance to get a total top speed cause I kept having to let off because I kept coming up on traffic. (I won't do this if I have to pass a vehicle going that fast)
I know the speed by rpm.
60mph@2100rpm = 120mph@4200 in over drive or
60mph@2800rpm = 120mph@5600 in 3rd (don't recomend)
This is a fact. Once the torque converter locks up, if you double your rpms you double your speed.
I confirmed this at lower speeds.
01 quad, 4.7, 3.92, auto, tailgate up
No B.S, never will.

WARNING: This IS illegal on public roads and I don't recommend that anyone try this on a public road.
Also disconnecting the speedo will also disconnect your odometer. This is illegal too.
When I stopped at a stop sign the engine died and the check engine light came on. This is because the downshift is set off the speedometer. Reconnected the speedometer and disconnected and reconnected the battery and all things went back to normal. Check engine light went off.

NO KIDDING it is illegal to drive at 117. thats why i asked you to try it again.
thanks for the info on the disconection of the speedo, i have 63000 miles on my 98 and i needed a way to keep the miles off. now i'm really glad i got the 5 speed i wouldent want it to die at every light. latter

kota-20, Even w/5sp it will stall at lights and "check engine" lite will come on. Also be carefull where you do the disconnect(if you still want to). It must be after the ABS unit or you will have no rear brakes.
