What year is your truck? The Gen IIs and IIIs Im familiar with have the coil mounted behind the belt tensioner. Not too hard to remove. I've had good luck with the yellow Accel coil that mounts in the stock location. Any good 8 mm wire & quality cap & rotor are required to prevent spark crosstalk between wires. The autolite or NGK plugs are the best for these engines.

MSD 6AL and Blaster SS coil here. No complaints except for the tiny hardware you get to mount the damn thing. Works great. Left the stock coil where its at for a back up.

First have you done any thing to need any more spark? This reminds me of all the posts about TB spacers.Useless on a dry manifold.Duralube Prolong etc.Very much the same here.I've have and had 3 Dakota's w/V-6's and they all got 19+ MPG.Not much bang for your buck.Lots of the mods needed in the carb days are not needed in a fuel injected engine. They flat do NOT work.Premium ignition systems were needed for the substandard stock parts when you modded your engine.Better plug wires than stock ....absolutely.Maybe a quality cap and rotor...they last longer. But no power increase to speak of compared to the stock stuff that are not damaged. The computer control of the spark today is way beyond the best in the old days.Whats wrong with the Champion plug that came in the engine? The engines are tested and tested and never needed to change a plug until the prescibed time. You can't get close to punishing the engine like the testing does. They never misfire etc.So why the autolites? Some magical H.P. gain? Can you say Splitfire?I can see if you need a heat range change etc but most peeps are not raising the comp ratio or doing any mods that require a change.Someone's selling a bill of goods that's only fillin their pockets at the expense of peeps looking for a more performance. If you do serious mods and run some high rpm then you can sink the bucks into the MSD etc. They aren't needed at 4500-5000.
