I recently removed a restrictor in the intake of a '97 intrepid 3.5, the thing looked a lot like a horn without a case around it. It did not do a thing for the bottom end as there must have been enough airflow for that but, boy, from 3000 or so all the way to the up to the 6500 redline the dammed thing runs like a baboon with his arse on fire. i looked at a freinds '99 and except for the lack of the restrictor in the intake his is the same and runs just as strong, we ran them off one day and stayed pretty even, yes one was ahead a bit, less then a length after the 1/4 mi flew by, so I would say that both are now pretty much the same, my 214 hp engine now does 250 or whatever his is rated at.. just a true demonstration of what an intake airflow restriction can do. so if I can gain 35 hp just by removing a restrictor, it is "possible" to gain 8 just by changimg a filter. especially since the vette engine actually gains so little on a percentage of total horsepower. What is a vette rated at 400 hp or something? so 8 hp is only 2% of the total hp. removing the air restrictor in the intrepid gained just over 16%

BUT, I take umbrige at the comment the amsoil guy says " only a few pennies more per oil change.?" At the price of his product it cost me at least a 5 spot more just to do it myself with his product then it does to go to VALVOLINE INSTANT OIL CHANGE and have them do a full synthetic change for me, no fuss, no muss, no oil up to my elboes, and best of all, I don't have to find someplace to get rid of more then a gallon of hazardous waste. Yeah I know that jerk will come back and tell me how his product is in his opinion better but you know what? up here in the rust belt the body will rust apart at around 12 to 15 years, considering my truck is 7 years old and has only 72,000 on the clock I can garruuntee that the thing will be in a junk yard, with the heavily rusted body and bed draped over the rusted chassis, held together only by rust, duct tape and bailing wire, having it's few usable parts sold off, long before the engine will need to be rebuilt, so I don't really care.

Wait, are we talking about an intrepid, a vette, or a truck? , how are you jumping from a POS intrepid to a Vette? are we discussing an airrestriction, oil, or rust? hell I lost track. any vehicle CARED for properly shouldn't be a rust bucket after a decade and a half... I deal with many cars from the 60s that throw that out the window... I even own a 65 stang that has no rust, and all factory sheet metal still. PROPER MAINTANENCE is what keeps a car alive!!! On a another note, Horsepower is the speed at which an engine builds up power, Torque is what actually moves the vehicle! air restrictions affect torque more than HP....

I'm really confused. Isn't an Intrepid a 6-cyclinder? I mean, I'm running a 4.7 V-8 in my dak, and I'm coming up with 235 stock. How ru getting 250?

I don't think anyone thats read this hasn't been confused...hell I think the person that wrote this was confused...since, after all, this is a DAKOTA forum, not an intrepid forum....LOL, I saw a post from someone about an ECLIPSE here the other day....
