Subject: Straight pipe in place of muffler?

I just called a local muffler shop, they said for like 50 bucks they could cut out the old muffler and just make a regular pipe to go in its place, then i could buy a nice SS tip and have them weld it on. What do you guys think? would it sound good? i dont want soemthing annoyingly loud or soemthing that res's in the cab. will it sound like an old beat up car? i have a 97 dakota 4x4 with the 5.2 v8.

Well I would run duals if I was you but if you do not want to spend the money get a flowmaster etc. and run a 3 inch tail pipe from the muffler back. That would be your best bet. Running no muffler at all will result in not enough back pressure. It will also be a little loud in the cab.

Spend the money and get a cat back system (MBRP Super Single or the like). W/o a muffler, it will sound bad ass, but it will get annoying in the cab. Not to mention the attention from the law. My 12 cents.
