im not sure about what all the aftermarket manufacturers offer for your motor, but here are some ideas-

throttle body, air intake, performance pcm/chip, performance muffler (flowmaster, mbrp, magnaflow etc.), 180 tstat, headers, if it's an automatic maybe a tranny chip...im not too familiar with your engine but those are just some common mods...just dont rice it out (4 foot wings, crooked, misplaced stickers, non-matching racing seats, carbon fiber anything, fart cans, neons, etc.)

It's hard to imagine why they would sell a Dakota with such a small engine. There is practically nothing you can buy for that thing that isn't going to have be completely custom.

There are a couple of dipsh!t posts on that thread but we covered the 2.5L fairly well.

Good Luck!!

And if all else fails or once you've done everything you can except swap in a new engine but you feel you must keep the 2.5L...

avengersuperchargers.com

Thats right...a supercharger for the 2.5L chrysler/dodge/jeep motor.

To Avenger Superchargers,

I wanted to take a minute to write you guys about how pleased I am with my Avenger Supercharger. I have a 1999 Wrangler (TJ) that came with a 2.5L four banger. I originally bought it for my daughter to drive to school so it was fine for her. She recently purchased a car so I thought I'd keep the Jeep to tinker with. After driving the 4 cyl Jeep around for about 2 days I couldn't stand it. I started with cat back exhaust, air intake mods, performance chips, etc. like everyone else does. My biggest fear was to get on a trail or sand dune somewhere and embarrass myself with that little motor. After I put on the Avenger Supercharger, and a set of headers, all I can say is WOW !! This little motor will spin my 31"x 12.5" wide tires and I have no questions I can smoke a standard 4.0L six. I couldn't be more happy with the supercharger kit.
I originally wanted to put in a V-8, but I didn't want a carburetor motor. I wanted a MPI system but I don't feel comfortable tying to get the onboard computer, air intake, auto tranny shift points, and all that other stuff figured out with the computer. There isn't really anyone in my area that could give any technical answers about the newer motors being swapped into a Jeep. When I saw the add for the Avenger Superchargers I thought why not, kids are running the heck out of little import four bangers why cant I get one to work.
I feel confident running trails, dunes, mud, snow, or whatever with my engine now.
In closing I would also like to thank you guys , and especially Butch, for answering any questions I had. You guys are very friendly and very knowledgeable, not only about Superchargers but Jeeps in general.

I'm sending you some pictures because they may be helpful for someone else during an installation.

I hope to be able to get you some performance data in the next few weeks, from one of our chassis dynos at work.

Ok Alex I know this problem,I own the 98er truck.
In Germany gas is very expensive so I decided to buy the smallest motor. But you can change many things like I did. For example :Nology wires, Beru spark plugs, stage 1or2 chip, bigger throttle body,TBspacer, homebrew air intake kit,K&N airfilter,180 F therm. etc. Very important is that you have to do all these things. Only one of these will not satisfy you.Now my truck runs 105 mph max speed, and has a pretty quick acceleration.Next thing I like to change is the rear end ratio it will give a little bit more low rev power.
If you need more information let me know
