Hey, I have a 95 dakota sport 4x2 that I swapped a 318 into (was 3.9L) How do I find out what size of differential I have in it? I believe it is a 8.25 but I have not measured the gears.
I want to put a set of 3.92's and maybe a posi / locker in there but I don't want to F**K up my diff. If I were to buy one from a junk yard just to mess around with, what would fit under my truck? it has ABS and the smaller drums, which I believe are 13 but not sure. I know there were two sizes and I have the smaller ones.
What year / model / engine of truck should I look for to find a diff?

I put an 8 3/4 in my '95 4x2 and I'm selling my stock 8 1/4 rear. 3.55, limited slip, mint condition with the optional, larger 10" drums (9" drums are standard). It's on eBay now if you are interested.

I have a 93' and the general spec. tag on the underside of the hood gives the size/gear of the rear. If you don't already have 3.92 gears it would be better to get 4.10 or 4.56s depending on the tires you'll be running.

Where did you get the 8 3/4 rear from? I was looking for one but only found center sections online.

I found an 8 3/4 rear out of a '70 Challenger. I took it to a local guy and had him rebuild it for me and set it up for a Dakota. I just wrote up a tech piece about the swap and put it on my website.
