I agree with the Boxter bashing. I drove a German spec (a little faster than American spec) 1999 Porche 911 turbo here in Stuttgart for about 2 years. It was a great can, but now I have the 2003 Viper and there is no comparison. I blow all the Porche's off the road here in Germany. They just look at me in dis-belief. Handling is about the same. The Porche was smaller and a little easier to control on narrow mountain roads, but the Viper hangs with them just fine. On the open Autobahn there is no contest. The Viper destroys the Porche.

I just laugh at the Boxter. It's a cute little car (girly man's car as Arnold would say) like the Mazda Miata. I am sure my Dakota R/T would eat the Boxter for lunch also.

Porche Boxster= poor mans porche like the old 924 model. At least get the 911 if you like Porche's, but for your money, you can do much better. People on this board already pointed out the Corvette and Viper. The Corvette is actually more comparable if your talking about cost. If your talking about performance and looks then the Corvette wins hands down.

" In 2.7 liter form, the engine develops 228 bhp at 6,300 rpm, and 192 lb ft of torque at 4,700 rpm The figures for the 3.2 liter Boxster S engine are 260 bhp at 6,200 rpm, and 228 lb ft also at 4,700 rpm"

"To give the Corvette a bit more oomph, the venerable LS2 V-8, which despite having been in production more or less since the year dot in Corvette terms, has an aluminum cylinder block which has been refined further. The capacity has been increased a little to a nice round 6.0 liters, and despite looking more appropriate for a weighty sedan than a sports two-seater, it manages to crank out 400 bhp at 6,000 rpm"

The Corvette has better performance numbers in every way (skid pad, slalom, lateral accelaration, straight line accelaration, top speed, etc.) and more standard features.

Bottom Line Porche Boxster S, 260 bhp, base price $51,600

Corvette C-6 convertible, 400 bhp,
Base price $52,245

As I sit back and read this entire topic, I can't help but be embarassed for many of you. The people I am making reference to are the ones who have their heads so far up their arses when it comes to Dodge.

Comparing a Porsche to a Dodge p/u is absolutely and positively moronic! I love my r/c R/T but I am not foolish enough to try and compare it to a luxury automobile. As was mentioned numerous times, a Porsche is a Porsche! Regardless if it can run the 1320 in 13's or 12's, it is still a Porsche. It is luxury and that is something a Dodge is not. My truck performs well and gets looks every single time I drive it. That is where it ends though. It rides rough and the only "luxuries" it has are the tape player and a/c. If you didn't get it by now, it is a p/u truck! Drive a BMW or Porsche (even the lower models) and you will understand that you can't compare them with a truck.

On the first page some miracle of science brought up the magazine time of 14.6 for the Porsche in question. This miracle of science also went as far as saying that it would take one hell of a driver to accomplish this time. Question. If it would take one hell of a driver to run this time in a Porsche, would it not take one heck of a driver to run a very good time with a Dakota as well or can any Tom, Dick or Harry get behind the wheel of a Dakota and propel it to blistering times? The double standards on this site is amazing.

Wow... just spent a good few minutes reading this post from beginning to end. I am picking up a 94 Club Cab 5.2 5-Speed tomorrow because it seemed like a good truck and I needed a second car, and it might as well be a useful one. The reason I need one is because I can't drive my new car (2005 Honda S2000) all the time because of weather and space. Until I started doing a little reading on the Dakota (after I had bought it) I had no idea that it was considered a muscle car or truck or whatever. Its nice to see enthusiasm by a group of people for whatever they drive. I love automobiles and drove a whole bunch of sports cars before finally coming to the S2000 (and no, I am not a punka$$, I am a 34 married father of one awesome 1 year old boy). I am just having a hard time understanding what all the confusion is about different classes of cars here. I could give a rats a$$ if my new to me dakota can kick my honda's butt, that wasn't the point in buying either of them and I don't think frustrated rich guys are going to the porsche dealers begging for something faster because a dakota just beat them at a stop light. Seems a little ridiculous that you would even want to race each other. Each class or type of auto is meant for a purpose, the S2000 I bought is perfect for AutoCross which is why I bought it (oh and because I love convertibles), and the dakota is perfect for hauling stuff around (and apparently going really fast too). Again, I say hurray for enthusiasts, and keep going with your lust for speed, but don't get nasty about it.... Sorry for the rant, just had to say it so I could stop shaking my head in disbelief...

I just read this whole thread and its full of useless information. For all those that call Porche junk and crap, is all full of it. Yes the Boxter may be the lowend of the line but for the money its still a good quality car for the price. All that I have read is a bunch of magazine racers, just becasue some brand of car can run so fast in the 1/4 doesnt mean that it will run that fast everywhere (vice versa, truck vs Porche).

I live in Springfield Illinois, were there is a very famous place that sells foreign cars. Isringhausen Imports, I have first hand set in a Carrera (It was the Turbo edition BTW 444hp and runs high 11's low 12 stock) Equal performance to the Dodge Viper, and have looked at a Ferrari 360 which was sold. Now I just go in there from time to time to look at cars and to get my moms car serviced. Ferrari BY FAR IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL interior I have ever seen in a car. Plush tan leather and red stiching with the emblem stiched on the headrest was awesome. But Porche was a very close second.

Now with all that being said you have to look at the horsepower to weight ratio. For example, look at the Lotus Elise, its only got a 200hp v tec but accelerates to 60 in 4.8 seconds becasue its 1900 pounds. The same principal has to be looked at when comparing a light Boxter against a heavier truck.

Hey...I'd like to see the boxterS or any other varaint for that matter line up against a '70 Challenger 440- six pack. There's a Dodge for ya.

Actually if they could pull a 14.2 or so it would be good enough to compete with a 440 6 pack! Muscle car test tested a 426 Challenger with a manuel trans and it went 14.0 in the 1/4. And that was the best of several runs.
