you will destroy him... i know its an auto but there is a kid at work that bragged about his 2002 V6 stang... he took it to the local 1/8th and ran a 13.xx... i almost died laughing! When my tranny was broke i ran my truck there and couldnt get it out of first gear (ran the whole 1/8th in 1st) and ended up with a 12.01.

for some stoopid reason he still thinks he can beat me.

I raced a 5 speed v6 mustang with my 2000 4.7 auto QC i beat him till about 60, guess the aerodynamics took over then. I am slower than stock too because of that damn flowmaster catback i installed, lost torque enough that i noticed it when i pulled out of the muffler shop. Any ideas for a fix?

so you think that you lost low end torque from the flowmaster muffler... yet you beat the guy to the 60'?

seems to me you need more top end (open up your air intake).

PS nodody ever believes me when i tell them i lost 1.8 seconds in my 0-60 times. Evidently the 4.7 works well with backpreasure. Aftermarket exhaustis not the way to go to improve the 4.7s performance.

Deno24,

Aftermarket exhaust is exactly the way to go to improve 4.7L performance, but you did something wrong. You added the parts in the wrong order. You should have done the HO Cam/Intake swap, followed by an aftermarket TB, and then done the exhaust. Any other order and you will not see progressively better HP/TQ gains (IMHO).

The old model camaro's and mustangs should be a walk in the park even for an amateur who has wheelspin bad at the light. Newer version of both v6's are rated around 200 horses which is pretty much kick ass in them cars. The new v6 stangs can easily run mid to high 10 sec 1/8 miles, cause I see them do it at the track all day long, no joke. With a 5 speed and mods, and with you having the quadcab weight behind you, I think he will sport a serious challenge for you. If you can trick him into a 30mph punch than you might get the upper advantage cause he'll have to start in second. This is assuming your an auto which you didn't clarify.

I can kill mildly modded v-6 mustang and camaros by about 3 truck lengths to 100 mph. I dust them off the line but towards 100 they are starting to creep back up. Damm aerodynamics.

the new v6 mustangs come with 190 hp, my mom's intrepid es with the 3.2 owns any v6 mustang or camaro i have raced (i cant win with my truck, due to traction..damn 5 speed), i think if you could get traction, you could take him until the aerodynamics take over, but you know the only way to show him is to kick his a$$ on the street

I laugh when people who wish they had a V8 Mustang/Camero try to race those things. Especially with LOUD pipes. They make the V6 sound like SH~T!

I haven't raced one in my new Dak yet, but I SMOKED those things like no tomorrow with my 2001 Altima (4 banger 5 speed) that I just traded in. Plus my Altima didn't shut down, top speed was 140MPH+

I still love my new Dak tho. But at high speeds the Dak really suffers from the wind drag!

Today I was at the bank and there was this Mustang sitting close to where I parked my truck. It wasn't completely plastered with the Ricer stuff, but looked out of place to me. So I was looking at it. It had big fat tires and rims on the back but the stock V6 type rims up front. (mis matched rims). Looking at the DUAL exhaust tail pipes I could tell they were not stock. One was even bent different than the other slightly. So as I got into my truck I saw some kid come up to the car. I waited and said to my woman, "let's wait and see what this thing sounds like. I BET you it's a V6" as I chuckled. Sure sh*te, when he started it you can TELL it was no V8! I started mine and drove around him making sure he could get a listen to what a V8 is supposed to sound like. So as I pulled out onto the main road he came flying out behind me so I punched it and so did he. I didn't kick his a$$ but he could barely keep behind me I think I was even loosing him before I let off around 70 or so in the 45 MPH road.

All the way home he played with me, but his car sounded like complete SH*TE compared to my single exhaust 3 inch outlet 4.7 Dak with my 40 series muffler.
Some here have been bashing the sacred name of FLOWMASTER lately, but hell, mine sounds pretty damn good. Good enough to make some idiot in a V6 Mustang try to race my 4X4 Dak.

BTW, I am also a FORD man my self. Those guys running the V6 Mustangs (stock) who modify there cars to look like a V8 make me SICK! This is why you got Civic owners bragging all the time about how they beat V8 Mustangs. Heck, they were really racing a V6!
Same thing goes for this guy up the street. He's got a slightly lowered RC Dakota. Ground effects similar to an R/T with nice fat wheels, etc. But it's no V8. It sounds stupid with it's loud V6. He stares at mine whenever I drive by. I guess he shoulda got a V8!

Spencer the next time you buy or lease an Intrepid get one with the high output version of the 3.5 engine app. 250 hp and loads of torque and not even an R/T will stay with it all the way to 95. Make sure it is the hp version as D/C also puts a 230 or so hp version of the 3.5 in them.

yea, i know but my mom wanted leather seats and at the time of purchase, the only R/T they had was a cloth interior, and in 2001 (model year of car) the R/T only had 244hp\242lb-ft, but i would have been happy, now we are waiting for the Magnum SRT-8, with a Hemi, im still working on getting her a chip for it, because jet says it increases by about 10 hp and 8 lb-ft

Yes, Intrepids are fast cars no doubt.

My other half bought one with the 3.5 motor in it and it cooks. Factory chrome rims are nice too. Don't look so plain. She hates when I drive it cause I'm so "crazy" with it. I have to admit it's a lot more fun than my 3.9 dak. I love smoking other vehicles with it. Trucks, cars, whatever. ONce she even raced a Celica soon after she got it. Hahah, that poor little 4 banger was reving so hard just trying to keep up and she barely had the accelerator pressed. A lot drivers out seem to think it's a slow car
Yet it gets damn good mileage on it too. It's a great car no doubt. I'd seriously think of getting one. Lots of room, good trunk space, blah, blah....if I was shopping for a car that is.

I'm a truck guy but that's one of the few cars I have enjoyed. I also like Intrigues...Took one down for a trip once. I was quite impressed.

oh yea, no one notices that the treps can cook some serious imports, until you hit the accelerator, then they do all they can to minimize the loss, i especially love picking on v6 mustangs, because all the kids my age think their 6banger mustang is the best car around, then i walk away from them

This may be changing the topic, which has allready been changed I suppose.

But I also have a 1998 Chrysler Cirrus with the 2.5 V6.
Same setup as was on the Sebring.
Has anyone heard if the bigger 3.5 from the Intrepid could be mated with the tranny we have? I've been curious. If not, this b!tch is gonna get some boost soon. It's a nice handling car and I wouldn't mind it being a Rice cooker. Funny thing is it's got a Mitsubishi engine now. But Japanese doesn't make Ricer. It's the lame mods that do!
