I am thinking very strongly about putting a supercharger on my 99 R/T with 20,000 Miles. Its a regular cab with Mopar Chip, Headers, Intake, MBRP Exhaust. I am curious as to how much power it will give me and if these ad on would help much?? Also will a regular cab with these mods and a charger keep up with a lightning??? Thanks for the help!!

Don't get me wrong I don't mind Fords at all, especially the Lightning, its just that quite frankly they are a lot of money and I think that the 5.9 is a very good motor and if the 5.4 Ford can handle a little boost than why cant a good solid block thats been around forever?? I'm just curious why everyone is against a Supercharged R/T?? I think it would have to be damn close to a Lightning?? Anyone ever raced one?? It sounds like the best bet is to spend the money and buy the lightning killer package frm KRC performance for $3000.

DON'T BUY A LIGHTNING! I went and test drove a brand new one at the local ford performance dealership...and I was NOT impressed. Yeah, it had some pull, and seemed to be rather quick...however, the fit and finish on the truck left much to be desired. I ended up getting a Dak SLT Plus Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7l and it is a MUCH nicer truck. The Lightning is much like the Dodge SuperBee and the Plymouth RoadRunner of the 1960's - Pretty fast, and good performance value...but pretty cheesy otherwise. At least ford svt bothers to upgrade the interiors in the cobra. And guess what else? The dealer premium on the Lightning was another $7500 over the already steep $34,000 asking price. Sheesh! I could yank the 4.7L out of my Dak, and replace it with a REAL 425hp hemi crate engine and still have saved money over the lightning!

With the mods you currently have, on 8psi and some good head gaskets, you are prolly looking at the 325-350RWHP area.

I would add roller rockers and new springs, and while you're changing those out, why not add a nice blower friendly cam?

These mods should put you up front of the "L"... I would guess somewhere close to the 12's with proper tuning and traction.

I'm running 13.3's on a lil' 4.7 with a Paxton and dual exhaust.

Razor,

I'm shooting at getting the thing in the 12's on the stock heads, cams, and intake before making the swap. So to answer your question, I'm running stock cams.

I will more than likely be going with the KRC206 cams though, unless they come out with a blower specific set of cams.

The best I've seen here STOCK was a 13.8.

Yet you always here about 13.3's-13.4's stock??? You have to look at their definition of stock though. "Oh, I should have said slightly modded... It's only got a pulley on it." Yeah, and how much boost is it running? "Oh, just 12psi"

I've watched as modded "L's" went 10's in the 1/4.

most lightning owners can't drive and only get low 14's from them... a blown R/T with a descent driver will waste them... definately get a 52mm t/b, M1 and some stiffer valve springs or you will get valve float at redline... have fun and go kick some ford ass.

First off, don't kill me for being here (I'm trying to find a MIL eliminator or something like it for a friends Dakota) but since I own a '00 Lightning, I feel I should defend them. With that out of the way, who said the Lightning interiors are not "upgraded"?? I think two tone leather seats with SVT embroidered in them and white gauges with a boost gauge are pretty good upgrades. Not to mention Bilstein monotubes all the way around, 18X9.5 alloys wrapped in Goodyear 305/45ZR18 F1 GS's, and a better spring package are pretty damn good. Oh, did I mention that '01 and later L's come with an aluminum driveshaft and 3.73 gears?? (which mine now has). So, it is a well rounded package, and will smoke an LT1/LS1, 5.9RT, some Vette's yada yada yada. Oh, and mine weighs 4862lbs with me in it, and half tank(12.5 gals) of gas.

Enough ranting. Bone stock it ran 13.58 @100.56mph and 2.02 60ft with decent air and an iced intake. Hot(after a 25 mile drive) it ran 13.68 @100.43 and 2.06 60ft time.

With the gears, chip and Flowmaster cat-back, it should run 13.0-.15, I haven't ran it yet with the new parts on, so we'll see.

Anyways, hope this info is useful??? and nothing against Dodges, I have owned several, and currently have a '59 D100 project truck. I have also owned a '95 Dakota 3.9 5spd(cool truck) and a '97 2.5 5spd(piece of crap).

Oh, where can I get a MIL eliminator for a '98 3.9L auto???

would not recommend supercharging

Man, that's tough... I've heard two other bad reports from the Pro-Chargers on the 360's. One guy was a local here. He had just gotten everything dialed in on 8psi (ARP studs, Cometics gaskets, etc..) The first pass he made down the strip, he ran a 13.60 @ 10?. The next pass, he didn't even make it down the 1/4. Blown gasket, melted piston, and a cracked block was the trophy he got to take home that day. Big money mishap.

I know there are plenty of Vortech guys pushing 8-14psi on these 360's, and driving them everyday. Same with the Paxton and Powerdynes. Just depends on the tune, I guess.

Hey Ford Dealer- I am a 21 year old college student. Would you let me test drive a Lightning? Probably not. Ill keep modding out my R/T. Looks way better then a Lightning, and next Spring when I take it out it will be running somewhere in the high 12's. Oh and by the way I paid cash for my R/T and have put close to $10,000 into it since I got it last May. If you dont beleive me I can post some pics if one of the R/T guys tells me how to upload a pic on this thing (im not a member).

Well The biggest factor in selling my Dakota R/T was just wanting to try something different. The L is a sweet truck, though more expensive than the Dakota R/T was. I owned the Dak through college and must say it was a sweet ride around campus. Most dealers won't even blink an eye at you if you ask to test drive one while you still in school. I can list the pluses and minuses of both trucks, but it is all opinion based. Stock my 03 L ran a 8.98 in the 1/8 and that was actually my first run, first time down the stip in any vehicle. It should pull off a 8.70 in stock trim, though we all know the variables of the launch. All in all both are sweet trucks, and there are many fast modded versions of both.
