What exactly is a gutted cat? What is done to the catalytic converter? How much HP is gained? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance,

take your cat off and hammer a pipe through it and weld it back up to fool the inspection guy when he look under your truck, HP verys thats if you see a gain at all, will also make truck a little louder

01 QC 4.7,flowmaster, k&n air intake, autolite plugs, more mods to come if i dont burn it and collect the ensurance money :-{

kota, did u have to get a o2 sim box? i read that zip tieing the sensor to the frame will stop the error codes (any truth to this)
also, with all your perf mods, do your 20s sometimes "hold u back" b/c of thier diameter or wieght? (just curious b/c i have a modded 5.2 and about to get some 20s) thanks

yup, just zip tied it to the frame and put a plug in the 02 hole. no codes here! my exhaust guy kinda looked at me funny when i told him to zip tie it to the frame..lol

my rim/tire combo work good for me. my tires are a tad taller than 27", so it gives me a little more gearing (taking my 3.92's to about a 4.01), and although i have not weighted them, i am almost 100% sure my billet wheels are a little lighter than a RT wheel.

Taking out the third cat makes HP? Are we sure. After a search I see alot of contradicting advice. I have everything ready to do it. Anyone have dyno results?

no dyno results, but i have track numbers to back it up.

i gained 1/10 and almost 2mph in the 1/8

my butt dyno likes the extra pull it provieds too! i also didnt loose ANY lowend torque, or none that can be felt.

but i also have a supercharger, manifold, rockers, headers, ect, ect, so my cat was a kink in the works. someone with a more stock truck may not feel as much of a differance, but im not sure.

4.7L Quad. Homebrew K&N, IAT adjuster, CNCing the stock TB to 68mm, installing HO cams too. So I was thinking I'd do this at the same time. Whatcha think? Keep it as is or straight pipe the 14" or what ever it is?

if you can find a exhaust shop to do it, just flange the cat, and flange a piece of pipe. that way you can just bolt in and unbolt the cat at will.

Why...No need to really. We don't have inspections, and I'll have it welded back in if it doesn't work.

i honestly dont know how it will work for you, but
its cheap to do, so you might as well try it and if you dont like what it does, put the cat back in.

Spark plugish. Next to the cat. Or depending on yer year it could be four of them. Two in front of the precats and two aftewards.....
