no kidding, my 2000 dakota had only 30000 miles on in it april when i tried to trade it in, motherf*ers would only give me 6 grand for it, and it is still in new condition, so i just walked. i knew they would sell it for at least 10k too.

The 4 banger isn't really big enough to pull the truck and still get great mileage. I'd bet that the new 3.7 v6 would get just as good, or close to the same mileage, maybe even better.

I don't know about that 3.7L though. It is more of a car-like engine than a truck engine. My buddy has a Liberty with the 3.7L, doesn't move it too bad, but I like the 3.9L much better, even though I get 18.5 mixed driving with minor mods. Go with a 4.7L if you can, great power and gas mileage that is equivalent with the 3.9L.

I had a 4 cyl for 2 years, and the whole time i wanted to cry. The lack of acceloration is pathetic. The gas mileage isn't ANY better because you'll be flooring it constantly. These dakotas are too much for a 4 banger, even rangers are too much for any 4 banger. I bought my 4 cyl dakota, and the first mod i wanted to put on it was a for sale sign... cause it was sh*tty. DON'T buy a 4 banger,... i beg you. you'll get better gas mileage from a 4.7 not to mention the performance.

Paul

Please trust me... I've owned both engines

One more thing,.... why do you think dodge doesn't put the 2.5 4 cyl in the dakota anymore. because no one would buy them and they sucked a big one. Please take this into consideration.

Paul

well this 4 banger is only gonna be temporary, b/c i just moved out and need to save all the money i can. if i got this truck ot would only be for a year TOPS! i know about the power issue, but thats not what im worried about, i was only worried about other $hit like a bad intake, tranny, alternator, etc. i really need something very cheap and reliable. i breaks my heart from having a 360 gen2 dak to a 2.5gen2 dak. my truck is fast as hell but i think i'll be able to handle not having power for a few months or a year, and saving enough money for the hemi dak:-> thanks for the replies.

I got a '94 Dakota with a 4 banger and a 5 speed stick and I get 28 mpg. I would like to see a 4.7 or even a 3.7 get that. I will admit that it is slow but thats not the point of having a 4 banger.
